Good luck to you! My husband and my mother both quit cold-turkey, so it is possible. . .it's just a mind over matter kind of thing!

I know you'll do fine lioness!

I'm cheering for ya!

OR, you could start smoking like this guy!

He happens to be a relative of mine (uncle or great uncle of my father), and performed his act at my parent's wedding reception.

Both of my parents quit smoking after at least 25 years of pack-a-day habit. My dad tried to quit after his first heart attack, and finally succeeded after his second.

My guess is those things hurt like hell, and they put the fear into you big time.

And he's doing fine, turned 80 last August.

Way to go lioness! I had extra incentive not to smoke: 3/4 of my extended family died from some form of cancer or another, so it's not really a smart option for me. . .so I've refrained from every really picking one up. Besides, they smell vile.

He's a legend in my family, and is also in "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" books. So, I did a google search for "Alfred Langevin" and pasted the link for the famous picture.

If I am not mistaken, he had a cold as a youth and ruptured a tear duct. Shortly after, he found that he could actually BREATHE through it. So he started to do some tricks and became a side show act. He could blow up balloons and play a recorder.

The one trick that I am sure would be very useful, though, is "I bet I can stay under water up to my eyeballs longer than YOU." He could breathe through the tear duct while submerged up to his eyes. Good money maker, I'd bet, as long as you didn't show off and came back up JUST after the other person did.

Yeah, I can't see it from work, either. Is that the picture of the guy with his finger up his nose and out his eye socket?

No, no. Use a mirror at first until your skills improve, but if you hit the pink flesh every time, you won't damage the cornea. But you will be thinking about something other than smoking! ;)

I did the patch for a few days just to break the habit part, then I went cold turkey from the patch. I took a whole week off and spent the whole time holed up in my apartment going through withdrawls that were of the type no one ever talks about. I thought I had just quit heroin. I had night sweats, headaches, vomiting. This really kicked in around day 3 or so.

When I started experiencing all this, it really hit me hard what kind of drug nicotine is. Although we all know smoking is "bad for you," we certainly aren't told the whole truth about the addiction. It's a beast.

Taking up jogging can help fill up your lungs and lessen the cravings. Also, you could inhale on cinnamon sticks (not the toothpics, but those rolled up sticks of cinnamon). They taste a bit like wood but they're the same size as cigarettes, so you can mimic inhaling (but without the smoke).

GOOD LUCK and please don't jump out a window if you get depressed! Just get drunk and go to sleep ha ha (but don't smoke).
