You're going to think I'm completey nuts but I have a DVD to recommend to help you sleep.
I found, quite by accident, that listening to traditional Indian music(as in Bharat, not American), puts me right out and one particular DVD called Divinity does the trick every time.

If that doesn't work, Alka-Seltzer cold medicine works as well as Nyquil without as rough hangover. :D

day 3 is VERY difficult!!! I’m thinking about it every…. 7 seconds or so.

Tim: i think it’s been more like "YOU SHALL NOT PASS!!!!" i started some Pranayama which is helping most of the time.

Selma: i do take the patch off at night. think i just might have to start taking it off earlier. your colder'n a mackerel comment made me laugh!!!! Perfect visual!!
Pillow possession dispute with Nicodemus has become the evening bedtime game in my kitty household. I feel your pain!

RC: you are definitely NOT NUTS!!! I have a few of Ravi Shankar’s cd’s. I love his work and they are very mellow. I’ve been using them at night.

cliche, might help.
Work your way thru two or three enormous packs of sugarless gum. Chomp fiercely. Discard as soon as flavor or texture even hints at deteriorating.
Lots of fiddle hand stuff (unwrapping etc).

Bonus- can sharply smack gum at annoying co-workers (ie anyone who makes any sound anywhere in your vicinity during the third day of withdrawal.).
Tightly rolled gum wrappers can be fired from a rubberband, for those too far away for gumsmacking.

gum wrappers also make good toys for having busy hands. . .just make a gum wrapper chain. wrigley's is the best for that. . .it's a good way to keep yourself occupied and busy. I'm sure you did them as a kid, just like riding a bike, you'll remember it again!

State Fair !!

The version of the movie with Jeanne Crain, Dana Andrews, and Dick Haymes... NOT the version with Pat Boone and Ann Margret.

This movie has such wonderful music and visuals. It is an excellent drug free sedative.

Piq: you are killing me... i’m laughing like crazy! just made my toothpicks and straw into a blowgun. aiming at different spots on the drop ceiling. very amusing... especially when it sticks. i should climb up there and draw a few bullseyes with white-out and highlighters.

i brought in charms blow pops & root beer barrels today. they work pretty good. i am starting to notice what ciggs REALLY smell like. UUGGHHH!!!

:puke:

now i need to get the odor out of my house. i have opened all the windows, lit incense and febreezed everything the last 2 days. i need to get rid of it. YUK!

Lioness, keep febreezing! If that doesn't work, you can try also boiling cinnamon on the stove, which has a pretty good odor.
Or, you can buy cloves and poke them inside the rinds of oranges (so that they just stick out) for a cheap citrus-y potpourri.

Dum-dums are good also. . .lots of flavors. . .lots of them per bag. . .

You can try sprinkling vast quantities of baking soda or borax on all the floors, letting it sit a while (30+ min), and vacuuming. Dump the vacuum bag ASAP.
Repeat every few days as needed. Its good exercise :(

The good news is: the money you save on ciggies might pay for new curtains! :o

Oh yeah, you could do the same thing with the baking soda etc with your mattress and sofas. . .depending on the material type.

She is right about the curtains, they will need a good washing, maybe twice through the washer. . .along with any rugs that you have. . .

After you get some of the smell out of the carpet, you might consider buying new rugs for parts of your flooring. . .(I am a rug and pillow person) and new accent pillows for your bed/sofas.

Just a thought. A change of scenery also helps make you happier. . .

Pier One and the World Market are great places for rugs and pillows, etc!

There is a solution guaranteed to rid your house of that cigarette smell.

Burn it down.

The house, that is....

Also: Oust makes a smoke-smell-killer air/surface freshener. It worked pretty good on my house after the fires.

Blue-flavor Listerine in a spray bottle will disintegrate almost any smell. Don't know what they put in that stuff, but it even works where a dog's been sick. :yuck: If it leaves the mattress blue-tinted, do you care? You can use it on a towel, wipe down any sealed surfaces. Plain alcohol is wonderful for cleaning off plastic surfaces and should also lift most of the smoke smell.

Expensive curtains and drapes can go to the dry-cleaner. If you tell them to do the extra magic to remove the smoke smell, it helps.

Professional carpet cleaners can help a lot with the carpets and rugs and furniture. Again, I suspect magic.

And throw away all the ash trays!

Hmmm, I'm thinking that the smell of stale cigarette smoke in your house (until you're satisfied that you've kicked the habit) just might serve as an incentive to avoid making any more smoke.

OT: The burning down of the apartment/house might not sit well with her insurance company. That's my thought at least...

We used to shoot toothpicks up at the ceiling when there were telephone switch upgrades and we had to work overnight. Comes down to that when you are bored.
Anyway,
One night we were bored so we called a friend up on one line, then a chinese take out on another,
Timed it right and bridged the 2 calls together.
I guess you had to be there to appreciate it, but it was so funny listening to our friend argue with the Chinese take out that they called him.
Then hear the Chinese take out say no you called me.

When we told him of this months later, he was ready to kill us.

What can I say, it's been a long day and I have to go to rehearsal tonight. Need a nap.

Hi SB, doesn't that fall under the mercy clause in homeowner's insurance?

OT,
My rehearsal tonight is a Concert "Pops" Band
We perform all over Long Island throughout the summer. Right now we just read through tons of different literature. Don't know what we will read, it could go from classical, jazz arrangements for band, or Star Wars, Indiana Jones type stuff.

Must tell you, one night we were playing this Tribute to Hollywood medley and there was a section in there for all the Warner Brothers cartoons.
Well - When the Merry Melodies tune started, I burst out laughing and the rest of the section just looked at me. All I could think of is Rabbit Season,,, Duck Season,, etc... Elmer Season....
