BBQ In KC

Postby BigJon » Mon Jan 24, 2005 6:41 pm

I'm traveling to Kansas City, MO from Thurs. through the weekend. It's a conference and training but I will have some evenings free. What are some KC BBQs not to miss. I'm staying at the Westin Crown Center without a rental car, so location matters.

TIA

my boss said to go to:
Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue
101 West 22nd Street. Kansas City
816-472-7427

it's only about 1/2 mile where you'll be staying.
i mapped it for you:

Go NORTH on MAIN ST toward WALNUT ST.
Turn LEFT onto W 20TH ST.
Turn LEFT onto BALTIMORE AVE.
Turn RIGHT onto W 22ND ST/MILWAUKEE AVE.
End at 101 W 22nd St

have fun!!!

Hereford House - it's a steakhouse right downtown, but ask the concierge for directions... it's been a couple years now.

Having lived in KC for most of my life, the one and only place to go for ribs in KC is at Gate’s Barbeque! The is one near the down town area, but the best one is located next to the Plaza on The Paseo, just a short cab ride from where you are staying at. You will find out that once 5pm hits, no one is downtown. For great food, shopping, jazz holes, and anything else for culture and fun in KC, you should consider spending some time at the Plaza. It is an area that comes straight out of Spain! Local restaurants to hit there are:

Plaza Area
The Fedora…Live jazz and great steaks, osterage, elk, beef
O’Dowd’s Little Dublin…traditional Irish food and live Irish music
Capital Grill…best stake house in KC
Gate’s BBQ…best ribs

Downtown
Hertford House
The Golden Ox…you get to pick which piece of meat you want them to cook, located next to the stock yards

If you are feeling adventuress with a group of people…Get yo Ribs is also a great place for BBQ, but go there in a group and during daylight hours!

Hi Ravencourt, welcome to the BBB pit(as opposed to the BBQ pit)!

Yes, Welcome Ravencourt.

If we get a couple more Missourians online here, we can start our own Random group.

I just love "osterage" and "stake".

One day I would like to go to "The Golden Ox" so I can meet the meat.

And I would like to feel an adventuress, but not with a group of people.

Tim, ROTFLMAO! I saw "adventuress" and thought I'd let it go for the benefit of the newbie. Little did I know it was really to leave room for the really good comedy!

:D

Shap, that would be the case if the monkier applied to that right coast group. However, that's the name the Sandy Eggans have chosen for their/our group. It was a valiant effort, nevertheless.

Thanks for the great tips. My mouth is watering. I'm flying out at 6:15 AM tomorrow. Plus I start working on a new contract on Monday, so I will probably be hanging out here a lot less often than I have the last half a year.

I bid you all adieu until I post again.

Jack Stack was awesome! Thanks for the tip. I was so busy I didn't get a chance to try any of the other places.

The Crown Center area of KC was dismal in winter. Not an inviting place at all. The only bright spot was Union Station. I spent hours exploring the place. What really pissed me off was when they rolled up the sidewalks at 9 PM. I couldn't even find a place to buy a bottle of ice tea.

If you review our alleged "planning", you'll see the logic. Such as it is.

We're usually on plan "G" or "H" before actual reality happens. If it happens.

We could use a good BBQ fix. There's a place on Fletcher Parkway that makes decent stuff but there's absolutely no musical connection.

:( Fat Ivor's, infortunately, is still under reconstruction. Once it is reopened, we must Randomize there. I've claimed to my friends that it is the best beef ribs in the world, and I've yet to have a dissenter once they've tried it.

Even folks who've been to KC or Chicago.
