There are some ostrich farms in the midwest. I had ostrich meat in a Chinese dish - tasted like steak but softer.

The most exotic meat I've had is iguana somewhere near Acapulco. The meat was shredded in a very spicy soup. Oh yeah, I've had turtle soup also.

Organs? I think I've had them all! :o I like the chewy heart muscle but I wouldn't eat it like the Sioux indian in Dances with Wolves (maybe I would on a dare).

Anyone had brains? (Brains.....braaaaiins!); they're OK.....

and yes Sheep oysters <long pause for gasps>, at wedding somewhere in Mexico; the entire animal was cooked in a pit dug in the ground.

No...not the whole oyster, just a nibble....<how's that better?>...
and only close guests get invited to "taste"/"share" ....<long pause...don't go there>.

I know it sounds twisted but picture everyone taking a sip of the holy grail. (I'm gonna regret writing this post).

There are cultures who "believe" that eating certain parts of an animal endow the "consumer" with the animal's powers or abilities. <Where am I going with this?>.....<oh.....what ability can a sheep have?.....thimk, thimk!>.....I think it was supposed to be an "aphrodisiac" <yeah, that's it!>

<quick change direction> Never had insects! Well, maybe chocolate covered ants when I was a kid but I doubt they were real. Formic acid is not tasty.

have eaten kidneys, liver, heart (cubed, in a soup kinda like heart ala king)(very chewy), and sweetbreads (soft rich texture and flavor. also in an 'ala king' style dish as it happens).
Frogs legs - too much work, like chicken wings.
Snails - great sauces, pass on the rubbery bits.
Alligator - not a great meat. Whiter than pork.
Ostrich meatballs - better than turkey
buffalo burger - not worth the extra price Buffalo steak was tasty tho overcooked.

Ive probably eaten all the "exotic" "bits" I ever will, but may try guinea pig if ever I go to Peru.

Serenity, that wedding sounds like a grand affair!
Altoid - curiously strong.

Nicole-Marie,
I have spoken to some vegetarians who eat fish and then met others that won't.
Do you know why there is a difference???

Big Demonstration in Providence yesterday by PETA...they were boycotting seafood because Fish have feelings.

Someone on a radio station interviewed them and asked about Plants feelings, before they're pulled from the ground by their roots for consumption.

The PETA representative acknowledged the remark as being purely absurd.

How can you fight for one species, and not another?

I seem to remember an old "Lost in Space" episode (where Dr. Smith becomes a broccoli), that fought for the rights of vegetables and their feelings. The main alien was a giant Carrot!

Hey, why not vegetables?

Dave,
You're correct. There was an old "Lost in Space"
episode that fought for the rights of vegetables.
Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris) did become a vegetable!

Dave,
Just googled the episode.
Dr. Smith turned into celery not broccoli.

It was titled "The Great Vegetable Rebellion"
Air Dates: 2/28/68 & 7/17/68
Writer: Peter Packer
Director: Don Richardson
Guest Cast: Stanley Adams, James Millhollin

Dr. Smith plucks a flower and is confronted by a giant talking carrot. The carrot accuses Smith of murder and says that he must pay with his life. Meanwhile, the Robinson's are having a birthday party for the Robot at the Jupiter 2, unaware of Dr. Smith's predicament. After Smith acts suspicious over the radio, the Robinsons search for him and must contend with plants running amuck.

Thanks TrumpetMaster,

I was filling in the blanks from an episode I probably last saw 30 plus years ago...

I remember Dr. Smith as being very green and melancholy, and he was watered.

One of these days I'm going to pick up the DVD's. I love the Crush, Kill, Destroy android, as well as the Giant Robot episode, oh, and of course, the alternate universe with the fog-laden path that bridges the universes (the Robot was evil in the other universe with a green talk plate instead of the orange -- I believe he was caged).

Dave,

Lost in Space was on for 3 seasons and you can buy the set.

Crush Kill Destroy android was also one of my favorites.
Do you remember when Dr. Smith turned to gold?

I'm 47 and this brings back many memories.
These were weekly episodes and I always looked forward to them as we only had 5-7 channels available back then.(a few years before cable).

Hard to believe but I surf the cable channels today and not interested in most of the crap they offer.

TM

One more for ya TrumpetMaster,

The green girl with the high pitch shrill that was in love with Smith. Remember her circling the Jupiter2 while in space?

Great great stuff. I know on the DVD sets, the cheapest price to buy the complete set will run approx. $160.00 on www.deepdiscountdvd.com (actually Season 3 Vol. II has yet to be released). I think I'll shoot for the whole enchilada when available.

Dave,
I do remember the green girl. I was this episode!

"The Girl From the Green Dimension"

Athena the girl from the green dimension who hypnotised Dr Smith during thier space flight arrives on the planet. She still is in love with Dr Smith, which he uses to bribe her to help him see the future. However, he promises to go back to the green dimension with him, and when Athena's previous suitor arrives and turns Will green, Dr Smith must find a way to save himself and Will. Urso, Athena's suitor challenges Dr Smith for the lady, customary in the Green Dimension, and after seeing the future, Dr Smith fears the worst. Athena realises he cannot be with her, and leaves with Urso, but not before Urso restores Will's colour.

b: 04-Jan-1967 w: Peter Packer d: Nathan Juran

NOTE: When Athena calls John a scaredy cat, actor Guy Williams looks directly into the camera, a first in his entire career, momentarily speechless.
Athena's catchcry, "handsome, pretty, handsome Dr Smith" remains a well loved quotes from LIS.

TrumpetMaster,

Absolutely! You and I obviously grew up watching the same channels out of New York. I was 90 minutes north in the lower Hudson Valley.

Remember The 4:30 ABC movie (Ape Week, Sci-Fi Week with First Men in the Moon, Mysterious Island, and Journey to the Center of the Earth, or how about Monster Week with the King Kong and Godzilla Movies)!

Dave,
My age is showing here. I remember it all.
I used to love watching Channel 11 WPIX on Friday nights. Chiller Theater.....

The channels were
2 - CBS
4 - NBC
5 - WNEW
7 - ABC
9 - WOR
11 - WPIX
13 - PBS

I have over 100 channels today. You would think I could find something to watch. Nope... Just crap on. I do like watching TVLAND.
They play the Andy Griffith, The Munsters, Bonanza, and of course Leave it to Beaver.

Regards,
TM

Remeber this one!

Welcome to Hooterville: The Home of Petticoat Junction.

Hop aboard the Hooterville Cannonball and visit
with the folks from the Shady Rest Hotel!

Here are the words to the Petticoat Junction theme song:

Come ride the little train that is rollin' down the track to the Junction
Forget about your cares, it is time to relax at the Junction
Lotsa curves, you bet
'N even more when you get to the Junction, Petticoat Junction!
There's a little hotel called the Shady Rest at the Junction, Petticoat Junction!
It is run by Kate, come and be her guest at the Junction, Petticoat Junction!
And that's Uncle Joe, he's a-movin' kinda slow at the Junction, Petticoat Junction!

Now all we need is for OT to sing this for us

lioness,

I used to catch USA Up All Night when Gilbert Gottefried (spelling) and Wanda would host the shows.

The movies originally shown were not even qualified to be shown in jest on Mystery Science Theater 3000!

Gilbert did have some funny bits though...I have a Ramones Raw DVD with Gilbert outtakes from USA Up All Night as the 5th Ramone!

AND TrumpetMaster -- those were my channels too!

Did you watch Howard Stern when he had the show on WWOR-9 in the late 80's? It was a howl!

BTW -- The Yankees with Scooter, White and Messer are my WPIX memories -- usually right after Star Trek at 6 PM with a Space 1999 perhaps following. WPIX was also the Gilligan's Island and Odd Couple Channel!
