Steroids and Composers...Investigation?

Postby DavidEB310 » Fri Mar 18, 2005 9:21 am

After the congressional hearings regarding Steroid use in sports, especially Major League baseball yesterday, there were some post hearing rumors regarding composers and steroids use.

It's my understanding that if steroid use is determined through DNA testing of classical remains, musical pieces derived from such use will either be suspended from air-time play, or tainted with an '*'.

Fans and holders of tainted recordings will also have to be admitted to treatment centers to be cleansed of all steroid absorption through play of such materials.

If Fans continue to play tainted recordings, they are subject to suspension from listening to any type of music, and continued infractions result in the ears being permanently sewn shut.

Anyone else "hear" about this? :D

Dave,
U R very funny this morning!

I caught the last part of the hearings yesterday before I left for my rehearsal.

It is evident that the players did not want to speak about this and there is need for reform.

Shocked at Bud Seligs comments.
I think he is craftly playing dumb. Then again he and all the owners have turned their heads for so long, they don't want to air "Dirty Laundry"

McGwire is a big wuss in my book! He avoided all and continued with "the past" remarks.

How dumb does MLB think the fan base is? What a joke. And yet Rose and Shoeless Joe are excluded from the Hall of Fame -- unbelievable!

If McGwire did not use steroids, why not say he didn't? In my book, by not denying the fact he admitted taking them.

Now what to do ... I say go back to the beginning of this whole steroid mess and clear the books of ALL records set from then through 2004. Sure, there will be some innocent players' records removed, but how's that for incentive to play fair. Then everyone knows that by cheating, they could hurt everyone not just themselves.

Anyone with half a brain (and most of us baseball fans do have half a brain) could see McGwire and his steroid buddies bulking up, looking more like pro wrestlers than baseball players, very quickly. It just wasn't natural. And from Ruth to Maris took a while, then the floodgates opened. Did, all at once, everybody get better than the former record holders? Seems too good to be true.

So, MLB needs to send a message. Expunge the record books. Suspend players (and not just for 10 days). Clean up the house.

I did read some interesting facts about the MLB drug testing program. Selig says that if a player is caught using, they are given a 10-day suspension (first offense). What he didn't say is that the player has the option of paying a $10,000 fine to get no suspension and keep the fact confidential. Also, the MLB drug test program stays in effect only if Congress does not investigate it. What the *** kind of clause is that?

Here's a question to ponder, prior to the late 1980's (circa Bash Brothers arrival in Oakland), who were the biggest bulkiest players?

To mind comes Reggie Jackson, Willie Stargell, Dave Winfield, George Brett (funny these guys were big and strong and one could easily determine it was both a combination of genetics and strength conditioning).

The Size of McGwire and Company -- good lord, look at Bonds in his 40's -- is both unnatural and unbelievable! Might as well put Hulk Hogan or Lyle Alzado (RIP) to bat.

RC & Dave,

Look at how "OLD" McGwire looked.
I have an old baseball card showing him in his college days. Compared the pics with what he looked like when he was setting all those home run records... Well - He had forearms like Popeye.

He was an embarassment yesterday and I lost a lot of respect for him.

This is dirty laundry that is now out in the open and they have nowhere to run.

Kind of like turning a light on in the morning and watching a cockaroach run for cover.

This is a sad era in baseball.
I will never consider any of these guys true champions because they cheated.

Hats off to Willie, Mickey, and the Duke!!!!

BTW - Didn't Lyle Alzado die of Brain Cancer a few years ago?

Regards,
TM

Brings to mind a big, televised, denial from a while back. "I did not have sex with that woman...Ms. Lewinsky." And we all know how truthful that was. Whether McGuire denies it or not, I think the evidence all points one way. Later on, when videotape of him injecting himself with steroids comes out, he can at least say "Well, I never LIED about it!"

But back to the original topic. I feel comfortable listening to Mozart because he was buried in a mass grave and his remains cannot be identified. Tht MUST make him innocent of steroid use. No asterisks! :)

Lyle died from Brain Cancer linked to Steroid use. Exactly my point.

Ditto on the loss of respect for McGwire -- I hope he never gets in the Hall. I was a huge fan of his.

Typical problems you will find in people who abuse anabolic steroids include liver tumors and cancer, jaundice (yellow skin from liver failure), retention of fluid, high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes, increases in LDL (dangerous form of cholesterol), kidney cancer, acne and trembling.

Men may find their testes shrink, sperm count falls with increase of infertility, their hair falls out, breasts start to develop, and prostate cancer becomes more likely. More than half of body-builder sterod abusers will typically experience enlarged breasts and shrunken male organs.

Little redundant there, no?

I read an article that another problem from steroids is acne. Take a good look at McGwires' face. Pretty potmarked.

[rant] Why are we wasting our tax money on this?

This is something these multi-billion dollar baseball teams should be handling on their own. This is just more sensationalist diversionary crap to take our attention away from the real issues that are costing people's lives and liberties.

It wouldn't be so stupid if major league baseball was footing the bill for all of this largesse instead of the taxpayers. [/rant]

David, LMAO! :D
