"A Canticle for Liebowitz" - Miller
one of my all time favorites.

Compare adn contrast to Harlan Ellisons "Deathbird".

Also read in a SciFi class in college in spring 1984. How funny!

Okay folks, here's my all-time stumper of a Start Trek trivia question:

In the original series, in the episode Requiem for Methuselah, how many Raynas were made?

I'll take guesses via pm!

:D

PS. And no cheating!

Hi Lioness, nope, watching the episode would not be considered cheating.

Hal, you're just gonna have to look it up.

OT,

Like his masterpiece Art and Music, Rayna is a creation of Flint.

Flint has lived for hundreds of years, so at what point in his lifetime did he create Rayna, and how many incarnations of her exist/existed?

Answer: I don't know, even though I know the episode, which I haven't seen (this one in particular) in quite a long time.

Here's a question: Is Kirk still affected by his feelings for Rayna?

Hi David,

Oh yes, I know the episode. At the end, Flint allows Kirk & Co. to enter a room where all of the previous versions of Rayna are stored. There is an empty table with a placard mounted on it that says, "Rayna [number]".

As for your question, I'd say yes, although at 74 he's probably more affected by his feelings for Viagra.

OT,

How's this for the reply to your guess...

Spock performs a mind-meld on Kirk at episodes end to mask the feelings that Kirk has for Rayna.

Considering the historical success of Spock, I'm going to have to say it worked?

However, since the mind-meld, Kirk has gone through a whole starship full of women, that too must mask feelings...yes?

Happy 74th B-Days to both Kirk and Spock (Nimoy's B-day is Saturday!)

OT did this episode inspire the jazz classic that goes:
"I'm gonna love you
Like nobody's loved you
Come Rayna come shine"
?
