Since the release of the original Dracula DVD starring Bela Lugosi (part of the classic monster set featuring the movies’ series of Frankenstein, Dracula, the WolfMan, and then the second set of the Creature From the Black Lagoon, The Mummy, and the Invisible Man), I have been attempting to track down classic vampire movies, series or themes.
There are, of course, the Christopher Lee Dracula movies from the 60’s and 70’s, and the Soap Opera – Dark Shadows of the 60’s era (and a short lived remake in the late 80’s), as well as Grandpa on the Munsters.
However, I’m looking for more abstract Vampire Movies. I recently bought “The Hunger” with Catherine Deneuve, David Bowie, Susan Sarandon, (When Bowie suddenly ages, Deneuve seduces Sarandon) in an eighties cult classic (I actually saw it originally in theaters).
Last night, “Vampyres” from 1974 arrived in the mail on DVD with Marianne Morris, Anulka Dziubinska, who hunger for the blood of mortals while also hungering for one another (nuff said as Vampires are very sensual creatures). The reviews certainly lived up to billing on this one (even my wife became interested in the viewing…she’s not a big blood fan…but the eroticism was enough to rope anyone in…)
There is “The Lost Boys” from the 80’s – a rock and roll vampire movie that is still very good (great ending with Doors playing in the background, “People Are Strange.”)
There are a number of Blue Movies out there, but is anyone aware of others that are worth seeing (BTW, I am familiar with Bram Strokers “Dracula,” and “Interview With the Vampire.”)?
Thanks for the feedback in advance (it’s daylight hours EST – tread lightly around the coffin…)
