What show is that from? My sister used to sing it to me, but I never associated it with a TV show.

Uh, *igJon, I think Selma intended the spelling............so it would rhyme with "swamp".

Advice, no charge.

That's from the Mitch Miller Sing Along With Mitch show. And, yes, that there word was intentionally spelled "dahmp" to encourage the appropriate pronunciation. But it's nice to know there's proofreading being done. :D

It's older than that, Selma. I think it might be from WWII, since I remember my dad singing it years before we were wealthy enough to get one of them moovin picher boxes.

And it's sung to the chorus of Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever."

I just realized that's the name of a newspaper, just like the Washington Post.

And a few more lines:
Now you may think that this is the end
Well, it isn't, for there is another chorus.

And for the second chorus:
Now you may think that this is the end
Well it is.

Hmm. Mitch Miller was of an age to have fought in WWII. Wonder if there's a connection there?

Is the lyric "doom" I thought it was gloom?

I remember "Doom". "Gloom" would work but it's not what I remember.

I won't claim to know I'm right. I've been known to remember wrong. Blond moments intersecting senior moments, remember?

Last night as I was driving home these lyrics popped into my head. Thought I'd share them with y'all.

Where oh where are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over and thought I'd found true love.
You met another and "pfthtttttt!" you were gone!

Regards,
Tim B.

Note when Tim posted these lyrics. I'll have you know that the tune came back to haunt me this evening, and now the song is on autorepeat inside my head.

I don't know whether I should be happy that I found the tune (See, the memory still works!), annoyed that it took two days to find the tune, or severely annoyed that the song is stuck in my head, with attendant twanging guitars and nasal vocalists.

I really need a better search engine. Is there going to be a jellyware release of either the Google or Amazon.com models?
