Orchestral Video Games

Postby EricMichaels » Tue Oct 18, 2005 9:12 am

This certainly falls under the category of non-traditional music, but I thought I'd pass it along anyway...

There's a concert tour making its way across the nation between now and the end of the year called Video Games Live. It's a collection of music from(obviously) video games, performed by an orchestra, complete with lasers and other stage effects.

On the list of music to be performed, you'll find selections from the Mario and Zelda series, Metal Gear Solid (Harry Gregson-Williams, I believe), Final Fantasy, and Halo, among others. There's even a suite of music from Tron. Selected game composers will be on hand for pre-show meet 'n greets at each venue.

Here's the tour schedule:

My younger brother and I will be in the third row at the Wallingford show on November 18th. I'm really looking forward to it.

Never mind. They just cancelled most of the shows on the tour, including the Wallingford show.

Aw, shucks.

Well, you can always hope for Final Fantasy: The Opera.

Or, perhaps The Pokemon Ballet. :D

I missed the Hartford Symphony's Final Fantasy concert this past spring. Nobou Uematsu's music is quite nice. I have a few of the orchestral soundtrack albums in my collection.

As for the Pokemon Ballet, I'd go just because the experience would be so darn trippy.
