Would that "cowbell" sketch be the one on Saturday Night Live with Christopher Walken as the record producer, giving Will Ferrell grief for not giving "more cowbell". I think they were playing "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. I think it was a tribute to a late member of the Blue Oyster Cult band.

Is that it?

I was watching Canada vs USA in Curling last night. (oh my - watching people throw rocks :)

Anyway - The Canadian team beat the USA hands down. USA did pretty well considering there are over 1 million curlers in Canada.. 15K in USA.

Did I miss the Ski Jumping?
Was it televised?
When I was a kid, I thought that was the coolest sport....

Ah - ABC's Wide World of Sports... The Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat. (Agony of defeat
was the poor ski jumper falling off the platform right at takeoff and tumbling down to the bottom of the hill.)

Yeah, but make sure you put on big, dorky skis before you jump so you can see how they get their legs all twisted up in knots when they land wrong. :)

Right you are! Glad I'm not the only one who recognized that.

I've never heard the Downhill song but if any one can find the link I'd love to listen to it.

Sadly TM, I think the ski jumping is over. There wasn't very much on TV. Just enough to say "Wow that looks like so much fun!"

I remember seeing a news report a few years back that showed a group of skiers ski jumping during the summer. I believe it was in Utah. They had built a ski ramp using roller conveyors (the kind they use in warehouses to roll parcels along. The jump terminated in a lake. It looked like a lot of fun. I suppose it would be possible to duplicate such a ramp using any slick surface, or with a greased wooden or metal ramp.

Where can I find the music that skaters used in their repertoire?

Nice to see that the curling discussion has continued since I've been gone...

I thought NBC's coverage of the sport during the Torino games was wonderful. They showed many of the games live, and they went out of their way to make the game accessable to newcomers. Congrats to the men's rink for winning Bronze!

I just hope the sport's increased popularity spurs the networks into showing curling more often. The World Championships are next month in Lowell, MA.

It's been nearly impossible to drive that image of you in curlers from my mind....

:p

Somehow, I doubt curling will ever catch on out here in the Southwest...

I'm surprised that Sumo Wrestling has not taken off in this country.
