Valentine Voodoo

The day is almost upon us,
Some of my co-workers are already receiving the floral tokens that can only mean "true love". While I realize that for some of us Cupids Arrow may have taken a wobbly turn, what do you all consider the best and worst Valentines gifts?

Best: Dinner out. Nice restaurant. Chocolate for dessert. Flowers on table.

Worst: New vacuum cleaner.

During my dating days (several decades ago now), I had a couple of "I think we should date other people" messages right around Valentine's day.

As far as the vacuum cleaner is concerned, I asked for one for Christmas, didn't get it, so I bought one for myself. It's almost as cool as my SUV.

Best Valentine's gift? Being awakened by someone interested in romance before going to work.

OT you are funny! That would remind me of a Hall& Oates song....

She'll only come out at night
The lean and hungry type
Nothing is new, I've seen her here before
Watching and waiting
She's sitting with you but her eyes are on the door
So many have paid to see
What you think you're getting for free
The woman is wild, a she-cat tamed by the purr of a Jaguar
Money's the matter
If you're in it for love you ain't gonna get too far

Just substitute "HUMMER" for "JAGUAR" and you've got the modern rendition!

That is a wonderful sentiment..hence the name "Serenity"

Hmm. I too bought a way cool vacuum cleaner. It's one of those Dyson vacuums, and it's all silver and purple, and there's no bags to find, and it sucks up cat hair like there's no tomorrow.

I think it'd be even cooler than the SUV, if I had a SUV.

It just wouldn't do for a Valentine's Day present. "Practical" and "Romantic", on my Venn diagrams, do not intersect.

Damn florist hasn't delivered the flowers to my wife at her office....
I told them it had to be a morning delivery (paid extra) and she leaves at 4PM...

If she does not get the flowers before she leaves work.....

I really don't want to call her before she leaves and mess up the surprise delivery...

ugh.......

My cool vacuum cleaner is a Rigid that stores on the wall, or you can cart it around. Picks up stuff neither of the other old-timers around the house can, and you can hook up the hose to the exhaust in case you need to blow stuff away instead.

Do we need a vacuum cleaner thread? Would it suck?

Actually, I got a set of Twilight Zone episodes on DVD (volume 4 of 5, the only one I was missing) from my wife. I had given her season 2 of the Sopranos for our anniversary three weeks ago.

I like to think I'm a hopeless romantic, but somehow a little plaque with pink hearts on it and gushy sentiment isn't anything I would want, but I would be afraid to toss. A practical gift can be very romantic to me. But hopefully I have learned the difference as far as HER opinion goes.

Well, I had a crappy Valentine's one year because I was avoiding my boyfriend's calls since I had decided to break up with him, but didn't want to do it on VD. Lucky for me he was in med school a couple of hundred miles away, thus made it easier to avoid him. Sure, he felt a lot worse than me the next day, but I spent VD agonizing and feeling guilty.

A few years later I met hubby - so this is my 9th blissful VD! Not a young couple in love anymore, but I'm still looking forward to my chocolate! Got him some too this year. Pumpkin gets a balloon as he has had bad reactions to chocolate and will probably have had a lot of sweets at daycare today! They had a Pajama party today... and I'm sitting here staring at the computer all day... oh, well. In a little bit I get to go get my oil changed! Which is a bit less painful for me since my dad is my mechanic. Will bring him a couple of Hershey's kisses. ;)

barfle,

Not only does your machine SUCK, but it BLOWS too !!

My "grass is greener" observation:
I used to HATE Valentine's Day. Invented by merchants. So you only demonstrate your love on this day? What about the other 361?

But, now that I'm single again, I miss having someone. Maybe by NEXT Valentine's Day.

My wife and I met and married later in life than many. Up to that point, we were both pretty unlucky in love too. So we took to calling our Valentines after our meet-up "Thanksgiving" :) :D

I reminded her this morning by waking her with a "happy thanksgiving"

Yup. Valentine's Day this year truly sucks. (And Schmeelkie's abbreviation has got to go! It's so not romantic.)

Selma,

Perk up and have a Happy Valentine's day! It's a day devoted to love, and there's nothing wrong with that. Even if your love isn't by your side to say it.

Sorry, Selma.

Tim, how many days in a year?!!

I have a 21 year old Kirby Heritage II I bought as a reman in 1987. Still wouldn't trade it for any other vacuum cleaner.
One of the things I like about it is I can maintain and repair it myself.
Other than that, it really sucks.....
