Here's what I won't be watching on TV

Postby Catmando » Thu Sep 14, 2006 11:52 am

Although I hardly watch TV anymore, unless it's the odd CFL game or renting a movie, I'll tell you what I won't be watching tonight......

The new Survivor. I lost interest in the Survivor series last year.

OK, on occasion, my girlfriend and I have watched "Sell This House" or "Rich Bride, Poor Bride".

Nicole-Marie is correct to say (in her bio) that TV will rot your brain. Avoid it if you can, or reduce the amount you watch.

I have thus far not watched a single complete episode of Survivor, iBig Brother, or any of those 'reality' shows, and my life does not seem to be diminished one bit.

In 1961, Newton Minnow called television "a vast wasteland". The sad part is, it was much better then than it is now.

I'm so busy listening to music, I don't have time to watch TV! :D

And reading, sudoku, crosswords, puzzles, boardgames. There are many ways to entertain oneself other than watching the Tele.

Hi, my name is Navneeth (M/21) and I hate serials. :curse: These $(*^@$&*^ go by the name Mega-serials, because they never seem to stop and go on for years together, mostly 5 days a week.  Think of the worst serial/soap opera that you've followed or heard about, this is a googol raised to a googol times worse. :curse: Actually, we've had very nice ones in the past that dealt with simple, interesting and realistic stories, but within the last decade they have mutated into monsters. Everyone excpet the sane ones watch them. First, it was the ladies and the the old-timers, now it's everyone above 30 (reason: they need to "chill out" after a tough day's work by watching people curse each other). Everything about them is terrible   You've got a bunch of them around noon, and the rest of %(*&#$&^ starting at around 6 in the evening and going late into the night. It's the same story everywhere - a woman who fights against all odds and succeeds. The only entertainment that I get these days is an hour of news channels. :banghead:

Okay, I'll stop with that...

Survivor ROCKS...It's about the only show that my wife and I can agree on (other than "24"). We will be tuned in tonight for sure

I've never missed an episode of Survivor...and never seen one either.

Hey Cat, on that "Sell this House" show do they ever fix anything with epoxy?

Tim B.

Here's What I Won't Be Watching on TV

Postby bellringer1953 » Thu Sep 14, 2006 4:19 pm

I do admit I"m a TV junkie--I love comedies and dramas--some reality shows--Dancing With the Stars, The Biggest Loser and Last Comic Standing. I absolutely LOATHE Fear Factor and Survivor, those shows appeal to the lowest of the low as far as I'm concerned. I guess TV is a good escape for me after a long day at a very stressful job.

I watch the kind of TV programs that follow my interests, which these days seems to be people fixing up houses. Not that my place is a fixer-upper, it's just that it needs a bit of customization. And I've gotten a few good ideas from them.

I watched the last five weeks or so of Design Star, which had several people competing to get their own show on HGTV. I also watched So You Think You Can Dance, a dance competition with a prize of a one-year contract with Celine Dion (sounds like an ordeal to me, but maybe the money is good). I saw a lot of amazing dancing, and a lot of really cool design work.

But I'm a Lost junkie.

Our family is defintely trying to cut down the tele time. We keep the cable to watch Turner Classic Movies. And it's not just me and hubby - the girls are also HUGE fans. When you have girls arguing over who's better, Gene Kelly or Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart, you know life is good. And you wonder how they forgot Gregory Peck.

Network TV, what's that? Oh yeah, it's down there by the channel that shows Numb3rs. I am happily ignorant of all reality shows and 99.9% of everything else on network channels.

Now if I could only find a way to block the sports channels........

Even though I have an occasional pang from not being able to wathc the Hitler channel anymore, I think we're far ahead by not having cable or satellite in the house. Been without it for close to three years now.

The only show we watch with any kind of regularity is Antiques Roadshow, and it isn't as good as it used to be.

Besdies, it gives me more time to post....

Lost!!!

Postby bellringer1953 » Thu Sep 14, 2006 5:28 pm

Barfle, I'm a LOST junkie, too!!!! I LOVE that show!!! And I'm not ashamed to admit that most of my favorite shows are on network TV. I admit there are some real stinkers on network TV, but there's some good stuff too--Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Boston Legal, Scrubs, The Office, Law and Order and of course, Desperate Housewives!!! Yeah, the title is cheesy, but it's actually a pretty good show. I don't got time for no junk!!!

My girlfriend and I enjoy these 2. I love Steve Karrell, he was great in "40 Year Old Virgin"! And I enjoy his character on The Office, and Dwight's character also.

The British original "The Office" is also funny.

On LOST:

If you add up all the numbers 4+8+15+16+23+42 (=108)
And divide by the flight number (815)
You probably need to get a life.

Tim "Lost junkie" B.

P.S. October 4 ! Not too far away now.

It means something may be wrong with your 32 place calculator.
108/815 is a rational number. It should come to an end or have an indefinitely repeating sequence of numbers. I would expect the pattern to repeat within 32 digits, but it doesn't. Maybe I shouldn't expect that. It also can't end on a 9. Rounding not allowed. How did you calculate it?
