Trip to Georgia

I will be travelling to Augusta, Georgia by car
this Friday and Saturday.

Anyone have any suggestions along the I95 corridor to stay?

I would offer our guest room, but it's torn up with the linen closet project. I've stayed in several hotels north of DC, and one just south of DC, and generally found Courtyard to be pretty nice places, with excellent breakfast selections (I recommend the waffles you make yourself).

I've stayed at Courtyard's before... they are very good...

I will be leaving Long Island at about 1-2PM.....

I will try to make it to North Carolina (if possible)
or I might just stop somewhere in Virginia and get a good nights sleep.

Want to do the bulk of driving on Friday... not Saturday...

Would have been nice to meet up!

Seriously.....it is my dream to some day to have a walk on tour of that famed golf course.

Allright.... Made it!!!

What an interesting drive down here....

I made it to Baltimore in 4 hours......
then it took 3 hours to get to Richmond, Virginia...

Stopped in a Red Roof Inn for the night in Richmond...
Small room but functional for an overnight stay.....

Arose at 5AM and then proceeded to drive the next 430 miles of my trip.
Made it by noon yesterday, then I had to sleep for a few hours......
Almost got wiped out in South Carolina by a tractor trailer that decided to change lanes and not signal.... Yikes......

The place my parents bought here is beautiful.
Much bigger than their house in Pensacola.....

Going to brunch soon with my cousins......

Will check listen to music later and hop on the bbb....

Glad you got there! You don't drive I95 you careen it amidst out of control eighteen wheelers and SUV's in warp drive.

I don't know what's your schedule, or your feeling about Blue Highways. I95 back into VA, then US58 over to Norfolk then 13 up to Cape May Ferry bypasses the DC mess and leads into a pleasant drive up the Maryland & New Jersey coast. Cape May is a delightful place reminiscent of Key West when it was straight. The Chrysler museum in Norfolk has Bouguereau's "Orestes pursued by the Furies", if you're a fan. It's right downtown. But this route would probably add a few hours to your trip.

Fair Anne and I take minor highways whenever schedule allows, which is most of the time since I retired. Robert Pirsig lauded them in "Zen & Motorcycle Maintenance" as well.

I have all next Sunday and Monday to drive back....
I might take up your suggestion and take the scenic route!!!!

So far so good, Helped dad move his treadmill and put down
a hard plastic base for the treadmill.....
Then helped him install a CD/Radio that hangs over the counter
in the kitchen....

Geez.... you'd think I was on vacation or something....

I just checked them out... Gee Five Bucks.....
Ironic - I'm probably going to stop in Baltimore tomorrow night.
Problem I have with the speakers is they are just too big. I don't have room for them....

I leave tomorrow morning... Been having a nice time....
My mom's cousins had us over for dinner last night ...
They've lived in Augusta Georgia all their lives....
They made this Red Cabbage dish.... It was so good!
Had Bacon in it... Biscuits.... Lima Beans..... This Brocolli/Cheese cornbread dish, chicken mashed potatoes. Then there was coffee, cake and this lemon fluff that was out of this world....
I'm still stuffed.......

Will be tough going back to work on Tuesday....
I really took advantage to rest up while I have been here.....

Well I could be mistaken but I think Wharfedale used to be top of the line.

My sister found a pair of old sand-filled Wharfedales ay a garage sale, I forget the model number but they look early sixties-ish. I noticed their incredibly smooth sound as soon as I stepped in the door. I don't know if this set is anything exceptional.

I'll try to PM Barfle - he'd know what these are.

Glad you had a good time. There's nothing like visiting family - we visited kids in NC at Christmas.

Well, I missed the auction, but they ended up going for $27, which is a steal assuming they work. Wharfdale certainly has an excellent reputation. If I remember correctly, their claim was that they built the box with hollow sides, but filled them with sand to eliminate cabinet resonances.

I'm not sure I would have bid on them, since I'm quite happy with my dear old Altecs (although I'd like to pick up a few more, I have the only ones in existence, since they are engineering prototypes of a model that didn't go into production).

I've been swamped with other jobs at home, but one of these days I'll be listing some more stuff from the pile in eBay. Sales like this one are a bit discouraging to a seller, though.

If you're looking for an awesome analog amplifier, here's one that ought to get sniped up to around five bills. And I just might join in.

did you know that green and clear lava lamps are thin on the ground? I wanted one in specifically those colors for a dear friend, and the bidding was shockingly fierce. I wonder if there will now be dozens available, as the potential sellers see the success of that one sole and only ?

Lava lamps - yes, quite dear

Speakers - I've been surveying the vintage Magnaplaner speakers on eBay, and some of the older ones can be had for a song. You wanna talk about smoothness and clarity, these can't be beat.

New lava lamps are very inexpensive. Its just that the new ones come in red (yum), blue (we got) but not green, with the clear.

I've got, and continue to enjoy my Paradigm speakers. Two front towers...awesome center channel, two rears (surround sound) and of course a sub-woofer (different brand) for the sci fi action movies I like.
