I don't know if this has been posted here already. I did a quick look and didn't see it, but I thought I remembered mention of it before somewhere:

Aussies Go Crazy Over 'Cat Poo Coffee'

Somehow, it doesn't sound like it would have much appeal to me...

And here I thought you were a cat lover...

I can see how such beans could be described as 'producing the richest, most aromatic coffee...", but somehow I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. :D

Probably better than "Fat Bastard's Stool Sample" coffee, from one of the Austin Powers movies. ("mmmmmm, nutty!")

Though I dearly love my cats, I am at the moment recovering from the ammonia rush associated with cleaning litter boxes in hot, muggy weather.

I'm guessing, though, that given the choice of drinking the coffee or extracting the beans, I would pick the former. After all, they are cleaned and roasted. But fifty bucks a cup even puts Fourbucks to shame.

I didn't know there was a patron saint of coffee. You learn something new every day.

I'm going to have to print that out, post it right over my Mr. Coffee. Now I'll have two shrines in my cube: St. Vidicon (over the computer) and St. Drogo (over the coffeepot). These are saints I can appreciate. :rotfl:

There's a Drogo's Coffee in South Carolina, and a St. Drogo's Cafe in Hollidaysburg, PA.

His feast day is April 16th, I believe. Have an extra espresso on that day!

Well, that too! I usually pour the last of it down there, once it gets cold, and I haven't had any clogs...

Sorry about that. My typing is getting worse. I've fixed the original post. :dunce:

my folks who at one time drank 3 or more cups a day, had switched to decaf - maybe 20 yrs ago... recently they switched to am caf, mid day 1/2caf and evening decaf based on research. My husband (2 cups aday) recently moved his late pm coffee to around 2pm and his evening beer or wine to pre-6pm to help his sleep. Glad to know it's protecting their brains - my mom, whose mom had dementia, will be especially glad to hear this! (of course, scientist-Schmeelkie wants to know how long the effect lasts, is there a level of caffeine that is too much, does this effect strengthen or weaken with age, etc.)

I'm not a coffee drinker, but either have a mid-morning chai or tea of some kind with lunch, then chai or cola for the drive home (4-5pm). these have much lower levels of caffeine and don't tend to affect my sleep, or fortunately, the sleep of nursing kids. I still won't have anything caf after about 6pm if I can help it, at least while I'm still nursing.

I like coffee, a taste I acquired in high school. There are good coffees and there are bad coffees and there are wonderful coffees. I think I've had two cups of coffee over my 42 years of drinking the stuff that was bad enough I couldn't finish it. I almost never adulterate it with additives like cream or sugar, although the occasional donut dunk has been known to happen.

I'm getting seriously concerned about the rising prices for coffee at the various vendors around the office. They're averaging almost $2 for a 16 oz cup, so I've begun researching coffee makers with timers so I can just full up a thermos in the morning and take it with me. I'm thinking I would prefer a bean grinder and a paper filter, but the grinder isn't a deal-breaker.

Any recommendations?

Barfle...check aorund for the Cuisinart machines. Not only do they have a timer, but many of them have a built in bean hopper with an automatic grinder. Put in a bag of beans, set your number of cups, and the time you want them...add water to the reservoir and bingo! Hot FRESH morning coffee. We have one. It's just great. The macine comes on, grinds the beans, heats the water and brews the coffee all in one step (after you set it up)

Most of the Cuisinarts use that "gold tone" metal grounds holder, and I find those to be a royal pain - so much so that I won't buy a coffee maker that uses one.

Does yours use a paper filter? What model is it?

That gold thing is optional. You can use regular filter paper.
