Telepathy, how else?

Oh, by the way, you've got a stain on your shirt. :D

Hmm, not today. But nice try. Normally I do spill coffee walking back from coffee room to my desk, and yes, sometimes on my shirt also.

dai bread wrote:Fiji produces a nice type of bean. I don't know what sort it is; presumably an Arabica from its flavour, but I had some the other night when at the home of someone who had recently been there. Very nice it was, too.

Yum. My friend brought some home from Tahiti and I enjoyed them very much. Kona remains #1 tho. I've had Blue Mtn and "didnt get it", tho it was nice to have the chance. It was good coffee but the specialness didnt speak to me.

I've got some cocoa nibs I occasionally grind up and add to the pot. I havent tried cocoa powder.

I used to like the flavored coffees such as Selma describes, but one day an underlying chemical taste/smell became overwhelming to me and I cant enjoy them anymore. :(

Husband will often add a scoop or two of instant coffee to good cocoa (I get the box with 8 variaties of Land o'Lakes at Sam's club - great cocoa!).

He also liked Ghiradelli's mocha hot cocoa this winter.

I can't stand even a little coffee flavor in my chocolate!

YUM!!! :yum: Your husband is SOoooo... right. I take this backpacking with me every year and what a great pick-me-up after a long hike or first thing in the AM. That Land-O-Lakes cocoa is really great...very rich and creamy (but I just like the milk choc. one.)

I dont taste the effect of Kona in a blend til its ~50%. So I'd rather save and occasionally splurge on 100% (~$20/lb at trader joes - not lion brand).

Trader Joes has Kauai beans sometimes. They are nice too.
Not the same creamy taste as Kona.

There's a Hilo Hattie's at The Block in Orange (or at least there used to be - I haven't been there for over five years now) (damn, I miss southern California) that sold Kona beans, and the TJ's here in Vahjinyah carry their own brand of Kona.

They're expensive, but if you're living off Fourbucks, you'll save money by making your own Kona, and getting coffee that actually tastes good.

I enjoy the TJ's Kona, as an occasional splurge. I only buy coffee-by-the-cup if Im out and about and cant make it, and that only on the days that have long schedules. At home, we live on Costco brand.

Is a Milky Way bar similar to a Mars bar?

Americans don't have Coffee Crisp chocolate bars, do they? :yum:

For thirty years, every place I worked had a community pot, usually paid for by the company. Then I had to go and get a gummint job, where they won't even let me have a coffee maker in my office.

Barfle,

I must admit, I am a caffeine addict.....
Don't know what I would do without my coffee....

Geez.... since the early 90's I have worked for 4 different
companies and there was ALWAYS Free Coffee for the employees.....

I've seen individual one cup brewers...
They won't let you have that on your desk?

That bites a BIG ONE....

Cat,
Mars Almond Bars are Nougat, with Almonds on top COVERED in
Chocolate.

I think the Milky Way bar has nougat, caramel, covered in Chocolate.

What is a Coffee Crisp chocolate bar? Never heard of it....

Perhaps there is a website where they can be ordered???

That's all I need... More Candy....

I didn't think you guys had Coffee Crisp chocolate bars in the States. Oh my TM, you don't know what you're missing. I'd say it's one of the top 3 or 5 selling chocolate bars in Canada.

We have a client from the States, and when they come visit us in Winnipeg, they ALWAYS get boxes of Coffee Crisps to bring back home with them. :yum:

Coffee Crisp is made by Rowntree, the same makers of Kit Kat.

While I seldom drink coffee (preferring tea) our office provides free coffee (and tea) with the Flavia system too. People who drink it seem to like it, but I still see a lot of Peet's and Starbuck's cups coming into the office. Flavia has a lot of different flavor...French roast, Columbian, hazelnut, cinnamon, and that caramely one you speak of. Flavia does the tea too, but they have opted for Twinning's Earl Grey bags (for which I am grateful)

Hi Guys --

I had a request for the Coffee Cantata of Bach's in honor of this thread. Sorry but I can't find the recording in the library. Just wanted to apologize in person...

The Coffee Cantata Libretto:

Recitative Narrator
Be quiet, stop chattering, and pay attention to what's taking place: here comes Herr Schlendrian with his daughter Lieschen; he's growling like a honey bear. Hear for yourselves, what she has done to him!
Aria Schlendrian
Don't one's children cause one endless trials & tribulations! What I say each day to my daughter Lieschen falls on stony ground.
Recitative Schlendrian
You wicked child, you disobedient girl, oh! When will I get my way? Give up coffee!
Lieschen
Father, don't be so severe! If I can't drink my bowl of coffee three times daily, then in my torment I will shrivel up like a piece of roast goat.
Aria Lieschen
Mm! how sweet the coffee tastes, more delicious than a thousand kisses, mellower than muscatel wine. Coffee, coffee I must have, and if someone wishes to give me a treat, ah, then pour me out some coffee!
Recitative Schlendrian
If you don't give up drinking coffee then you shan't go to any wedding feast, nor go out walking. Oh! when will I get my way? Give up coffee!
Lieschen
Oh well! Just leave me my coffee!
Schlendrian
Now I've got the little minx! I won't get you a whalebone skirt in the latest fashion.
Lieschen
I can easily live with that.
Schlendrian
You're not to stand at the window and watch people pass by!
Lieschen
That as well, only I beg of you, leave me my coffee!
Schlendrian
Furthermore, you shan't be getting any silver or gold ribbon for your bonnet from me!
Lieschen
Yes, yes! only leave me to my pleasure!
Schlendrian
You disobedient Lieschen you, so you go along with it all!
Aria Schlendrian
Hard-hearted girls are not so easily won over. Yet if one finds their weak spot, ah! then one comes away successful.
Recitative Schlendrian
Now take heed what your father says!
Lieschen
In everything but the coffee.
Schlendrian
Well then, you'll have to resign yourself to never taking a husband.
Lieschen
Oh yes! Father, a husband!
Schlendrian
I swear it won't happen.
Lieschen
Until I can forgo coffee? From now on, coffee, remain forever untouched! Father, listen, I won't drink any.
Schlendrian
Then you shall have a husband at last!
Aria Lieschen
Today even dear father, see to it! Oh, a husband! Really, that suits me splendidly! If it could only happen soon that at last, before I go to bed, instead of coffee I were to get a proper lover!
Recitative Narrator
Old Schlendrian goes off to see if he can find a husband forthwith for his daughter Lieschen; but Lieschen secretly lets it be known: no suitor is to come to my house unless he promises me, and it is also written into the marriage contract, that I will be permitted to make myself coffee whenever I want.
Trio
A cat won't stop from catching mice, and maidens remain faithful to their coffee. The mother holds her coffee dear. The grandmother drank it also. Who can thus rebuke the daughters?

I wasn't familiar with it before now.
