She was energetic till the end, especially around meal times When she heard me banging the food bowls around she'd coming bouncing into the kitchen. She couldn't run well so she'd bounce. I have a video tape somewhere showing her at meal time. I'll try to find it and figure out how to make a computer video of it.

I am sorry to reach out to my B.com friends again on this... but your prayers 1 1/2 years ago created
a miracle cure for our Jenny. We have been blessed with this added time with her and have treasured each moment!

On July 4th, she got off the sofa in the den and could not stand up. Her balance was off and she would not eat.
She looked like a drunk pup when trying to walk. Her eyes were moving back and forth and she had a twitch we had never seen.

We took her to the vet the next day and she was diagnosed with Canine Vesitbular Disease.

The vet says this is 100% recoverable.
Vet prescribed medication to help as well as Pepcid to help with the nausea.
It seems to have helped as her walking over the past couple of days has improved and she is interested in eating again (not much) but eating.

She is still unsteady on her feet but since starting this medication she has had terrible diarrhea.

I pray the diarhea is not a permanent effect from this condition and ONLY from the medication.

Please pray again for her recovery.

TM...I have a 12 year old Golden and we fear the day that she starts failing...my thoughts and prayers are with you and Jenny.

Jenny is my first dog. We adopted her when she was about 2 and is about 14 1/2 now.
She is a blessing from god and a GREAT companion.

Update...
Got home today and Jenny had another case of diarrhea.
We baracaded the kitchen so if it happened again it would be easier to clean up.

Anyway, we stopped the medication for this disease and the vet prescribed
a different medication to help with her diarrhea. Fingers crossed this works.

She was more alert and walking better today. Still has a head tilt but it
seems as she is slowly recovering

Here is the latest.
We still need to baracade Jenny in the kitchen at night and when no one is home.
The good news is she is more alert, and has not had severe diarrhea.

She is slowly coming back to her old crotchety self...

Jenny has been slowly regaining her strength. Walking is better buy much slower.
She is eating, drinking... etc... but still does not want to go upstairs.

We did get her to climb 3 steps yesterday to the living room and then down three steps.
Will not entertain going to her beds upstairs (yet - fingers crossed)

She is alert (when not asleep) and barks when someone walks by.
She will be about 14 1/2 on August 6th.

Each day is a blessing with her!

Wedge in some boards for thosee three steps so she can use ramps?
Going upstairs may be a thing of the past. Steps are HARD, especially down which hurts a lot and is scary. Up just hurts.

Anyway, glad she's still brightening your days. I hate it when pets die.

First - Thank you for all your prayers over the years for our Jenny.
I truly believe that all the prayers healed her as the vets are
shocked at her recovery from 2 1/2 years ago. She is truly a miracle pup!

Three weeks ago Jenny had another Vestibular episode.
This one was not as bad as the one last July and her recovery is slow and steady.
She has not gained the confidence to go upstairs.

However,
two weeks ago we discovered her ear was enlarged. We took her to the vet and
as it turns out, it is a hematoma. The vet drained it but said about 90% come back
and it is best to repair it surgically. The vet also said you can leave it alone as well and
the blood will get reabsorbed back into here system. That can't be comfortable.
Unfortunately, the bleeding has not stopped and the hematoma is there.
Her ear has gotten bigger in the past week and we have made a decision to go through the surgery.

It is a 1/2 hour procedure. She must undergo general anethesia.... (at 15 she is not a prime candidate for this)
but our vet feels it is low risk.

She is scheduled for this Monday to have the procedure done.

I ask again for your Prayers to get her through the surgery safely and for a speedy recovery.
She is in the twilight of her life and all we want to do is let her know how much she is loved
and give her the best care possible!

TM...I can well understand what you are going through. Our beloved golden retriever, Cassie has been in and out of the vet now a number of times for lots of nuisance illnesses and procedures like you describe. We approach each one with trepidation since she is 13 now. We can really see her aging. I wish you the best with Jenny both in terms of a successful procedure and a comfortable, happy life.

Jamie - her face is snow white now. I look at her when she did not have any white hair. OMG... She has
always been such a joy!

You know.. we adopted her when she was 2.
She was in a no kill shelter (last resort) and was unadoptable. Her next stop was to be destroyed....
SO.... we saved her from that fate and have had all these wonderful years with her.
We want the best for her... (she will get it) and let her know each day how much she is LOVED!!!
Not that it is time ... but it will be difficult to let go......

Our vet says this is pretty routine, but I am always concerned for any type of surgery....

at the time, my wife was working from home and was able to stay with her, train her from her behavioural issue.
during that time Jenny chewed up a cable remote, my wifes wallet, and a hand held micro-cassette recorder that I used
for meetings. she howled non stop at first when we left the house (until the cassette recorder was eaten) and graduated her from a cage, to now where she has beds all over the house and goes wherever she pleases

we found the rawhide chews (we called them puppy prozac) worked wonderfully!
