Hope things are stable down there...you guys got a real soaking. We missed the brunt of it here in NorCal

A White Christmas Eve here. Briefly, at least. I'm not sure if it will continue. We weren't expecting this much, as the weatherman was calling for rain, with the ice and snow expected to pass north of us.

We had a white Christmas. About a half-inch or so, but that's enough to qualify, methinks. It's been snowing intermittently ever since.

We drove down to Kentucky yesterday. They seem to have gotten more snow than we did, I would guess two inches or more. It was a much wetter snow, too, as there were many snowmen along the route.

Yyesterday was wet, wet, wet. Drizzle and warm, as expected it's thirty degrees colder this morning.

Tried to get to post office yesterday. Oldsmobile quit a block from home. A friend gave me a tow back to house- i think it's moisture in ignition wires.
Took truck into town, found PO had just closed for New Year's . Truck refused to start, no pressure in fuel injection system, same friend gave me a lift home. By then it was getting dark.
It's a revolt of the machines.
Same friend is coming over now, we'll get a tow dolly and retrieve truck from Post office..
Hope it warms up a little.

Happy New Year!

Sorry for gloom report this morning. Things are looking up.

Found out truck has this little switch up under dashboard that shuts off fuel pump in case of a crash....

if you have a Ford Ranger from last ten years, familiarize yourself with the "Inertia switch" . It is on inside firewall , passenger side, adjacent righthand kick panel, behind top right corner of floor mat.. It has a little red button on top that must be pushed down. And make sure the connector on bottom is pushed completely up until the little latch "clicks".
If it won't start after carrying a very large passenger who needs more legroom than a Ranger can provide, check that switch. Seems a size 11 foot can dislodge the wires or trip the switch ....

Got distributor cap off "Babe" the Big Blue Oldsmobile. It is coated inside with white powder which i believe went conductive in yesterday's high humidity. Car is nineteen years old and this is first hiccup so bought her new wires, cap, plugs - the works, she's earned it.

Progress :D Hope it's warmer tomorrow !

Yesterday started sunny, cool - went to rainy, cooler.
Altoid and JetFuel played Paleontologist in the mud outside - JF in longjohns, teeshirt, jeans, sweatshirt and rubber boots, Altoid in a sleeveless cotton sundress and sneakers. When the rain began, they retreated, and built a fort/tent under the plastic picnic table until we called them in at dark.
She conceded to the rain by adding a light jacket.
Me, I'm inside in sweats, sweatshirt, and fleece jacket.
Altoid - curiously strong.

Sitting on my bedroom patio, in a sunlounger chair, puzzle page to one side; mocha coffee laced with Kahlua on the other. Distant murmur of traffic; distant voices from the neighbourhood. Sunset painting the few clouds on the horizon brilliant pink and orange. Absolute bliss!

Beautiful sunny clear cool 50-ish day, light jacket.

I feel SOOO much better in this cooler climate than in the tropics.

Got cars all fixed up, might grill a steak tomorrow.

We're back to being sunny, but very cold - lows in the '10s and lower '20s. highs only around 40. (Fahrenheit, of course.)

TM hope it wasn't too bad for you - had friends in Brooklyn who literally couldn't get their door open - had to hail a neighbor to dig them out - then took days for the plows to get to their streets! Meanwhile, we had a white Christmas, only a trace of new snow though. By New Years Eve it was mostly all melted - all 46.5 inches of it (record snowiest December for Rochester, but Syracuse is already up to about 70 inches!), rained most of New Years Day, then cold and snowy again Sunday. Nothing big coming our way - normal winter - high today to 36, but rest of the week between 25-32 with some chance of snow.
But at least we're not in Arkansas where it was raining birds!!

I haven't heard of a recipe for blackbirds. With enough garlic it could probably work.
Here's Arkansas' Sweetheart of PBS' with her squirrel enchiladas.

There are also reports of Blackbird die-offs in Louisiana and Kentucky, although they appear to be smaller than the one in Arkansas.

A Louisiana Fish & Game spokesman says such die-offs are not uncommon.

Unfortunately, they are uncommon among starlings...

Heh. Amen, brother.

It's 68 in Dallas today, nice an sunny. The ground is too wet to play with Haggis outside; a decidedly unpopular decision as far as he is concerned!

sing a song of six-pence
a pocket full of rye.
4 & 20 blackbirds,
baked in a pie....

I recommend a short-crust, not too sweet,
and a few root vegetables to bring out the flavor.

70 on my patio, Haggis got some quality ball chasing time. With the MRHYN out of the house I can get some nag free cigar time.
