Stimulate the Economy - Holiday Shopping

Postby piqaboo » Thu Dec 02, 2010 2:39 pm

How's your Christmas and other shopping going?

I helped small business people to the tune of several hundred dollars over the past 5 days.
So far, I havent tackled the economic well-being of the big stores, but I'm sure I'll do at least a little to help them along too.

Now I need to get Altoid out of the house so I can spread it all out and figure out what is for who. Can I keep it all?

I'm embarrassed to say I haven't gotten started, other than a couple of gifts I've picked up weeks or months ago. I've just drawn a blank on what to get the people on my list. I had intended to buy gifts while in Erupore, but didn't see anything I wanted to lug back home, and most of the places had websites (which meant someone else would be responsible for getting the goods safely to my door, not me!), so I was going to order them when I got home, but I still couldn't decide on what to get.

I have a few ideas for some on the list, but for others I'm coming up blank. Nothing seems to feel right this year.

Last year, we bought gifts from Scotland and Ireland (door knockers, mostly), which was nice, and was sort of a way of sharing our travels with them. But Greek Statues, Venetian masks, and Roman togas aren't everybody's cup o' tea, and I didn't see a lot of other ideas there that stuck in my mind. So, here I am, three weeks before Chirstmas, with little shopping done.

The same goes for the Beethoven's Birthday gifts! I've barely started on them, as well! ;)

Waiting for the arrival of the last gifts for neices in Paupa New Guniea - they might get them close to on time this year! Haven't started on anyone else, have to start gathering ideas. The worst is always my husband...maybe I know him too well to pick a gift? This weekend have to do the secret santa gift - but as the person I'm buying for is a new dad (well, newish - daughter is about 5 months now), think I'll probably find a nice photo book or frame or something...

for once in my life I am actually on top of the holiday shopping with several ideas (and already purchased gifts) for Bonnie (wife). She is impossible to buy for, but then so am I....lol. The kids are easy. They are both starting homes so the sky is the limit on what they need. This year it is power tools for my son. The daughter will probably get money, although she has put in a request for a white water kayak.

We contributed to the well-being of the local year-round Christmas store, last night.
OT got the tree-topper, something he's been pining for for years.
We found the BEST model grand piano - internal strings, movable fall board, etc, at 3" across. What a hoot.
That's from herself to OT.

Altoid will probably give everyone Xmas ornaments this year, so a trip to the craft store is on the agenda to make them for the Gmas, Gpa, Aunt(s).
Aunt-the-local wants movie tix, which I can pick up at work.
Then Target, and a visit to my favorite jewelry crafters to get something for the interns, and I think we're done (I hope so!).

OT and I romantically decided to buy each other a pair of folding chairs. Awwwwwwwww.
And to pay an electrician to install my fabulous lamp(s) (Xmas presents from several years back) since we dont feel comfortable doing it (they are a lot heavier than the ones they replace).
Which will mean repainting the dining room chairs to complement the lamps. Dang, I'm tired. Can I get me some elves for Xmas?

All of my christmas shopping for the MRHYN is mainly done and all online. I'm thinking Santa's going to get me a new Springfield 9MM to use as my daily carry. The .40CAL is too much on my 62 y.o. wrists, plus the Springfield is easier to break down and comes with two extra mags if I get it before Jan. I got a bunch of .40CAL ammo if anyone's looking for some

I bought some classic movies that had been refreshed for Blu-ray. The current offering on b.com reminded me. It's Fritz Kreisler playing "Danny Boy". My family had it on a 78.

The transfer of the movies to Blu-ray has been excellent so far.
