the ignore list doesn't do anything! I still see his posts, oh well.
nothing against you, HR, or your theories, but can't you post things that belong on this board as a Classical Music Board?
[ 01-19-2003: Message edited by: bignaf ]

I may regret this, but Hello Henry. Philosophy IS taught in some schools. Your blanket statements sound like political dogma from a place few of us live. Some of us do think. I think I might actually agree with much of what you had to say if you were clear about it.
Politics and philosophy form A category? The rest of your sentence makes no sense to me. BRIEFLY, what do you propose we do about THE PROBLEM, after specifying what THE PROBLEM is? Start your own thread so that we can have the option of interchange.
It seems you have MANY things on your mind. It would help to take one at a time to deal with. If any of them relate to music, start there.
Shos

Tell me, where does passion fit into all of this thought, politics and philosophy? Can you have a meaningful life without passion and feeling? Do you possess a heart? Is that icewater in your veins? All of this cerebrality (new word, Shos!? Don't want the MP's after me.) is exactly what breaks down our value system and our humanity (opinion, opinion, OPINION!!)! The heart knows no balance or symmetry or objectiveness. Subjectivity is something that makes life exciting and worth living (and a huge reason we have such stimulating discussion on this board). It's all relative, baby, and that's the beauty of it!
I think it's time for my medication now....
[ 01-21-2003: Message edited by: operatenor ]

HR, ever see The Wrath Of Khan? I know, I know, media.
"Unition"? Might hafta ask Shos of Grammar MP fame for clarification.
Okay, so substitute "soul" for "heart". Especially if you're a James Brown fan.
Since when are emotions and opinion a mistake? All this talk of physical and intellectual superiority reeks of Eugenics. Sure you're no relation to A.H.? Next thing we'll start hearing is Nordic Mythology...
What do passion, subjectivity, and spontaneity(sp?) have to do with government and self-interest?
I believe we have differing opinions of what constitutes "improvement".

Wait....this is really just one of you other folks just baiting me, isn't it?
PS. The only thing(s) that "entrain" me are my sense of integrity, personal accountability, and acknowledgement of my need for passion.
[ 01-22-2003: Message edited by: operatenor ]

ah, the great mistakes of the past....emotions and opinions...of course you realize, hank, that these are all your opinions. i'm sorry, but it's all a pretty thin veneer of rhetoric.
as for mankind surpassing nature, it'll never happen. nature expands as our knowledge expands. it evolves as our perception of it changes.

I mean I'm 13 and on a classical music board, that's enough in this day and age. Everyone else is in protest. Some people are going to march to the White House. (I read this in our newspaper.)
