I heard the overture to Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg Opera by Richard Wagner played by Piano by Glenn Gould .
It was nice but the Orchestal performance is better.
Wagner did compose The American Centennial March.
I know only one disc with the March with The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor :Varujan Kojian.

OK, who is William Lichtenwanger?

What do you think of Wagner's American Centennial March, Hernan? I believe it was commissioned by the city of Philadelphia in 1876. Wagner was paid something like $10,000, I think. For that he should have written a Ring of the Presidents cycle of music dramas.

I am not know who is William Lichtenwanger too.
The only thing that I know is that He wrote a book about the USA National Anthem.
The American Centennial March by Wagner is nice but I prefer the Operas like Rienzi and The Mastersingers of Nuremberg.

Bones probably knows who William Lichtenwanger is, and maybe OT can translate his name for us.

I did a yahoo search, and as far as the top ten hits were concerned, it appears that his major work was a cataloging of a bunch of flutes in the collection of Dayton C. Miller.

At least they came up with something that he did, unlike me...

the Meistersinger prelude by Gould is amazing! I love it. the lines come out clearer in his playing than in the orchestra.
