Ajax,

Quick, send word back to the dressing room for help. They're beginning to pile on.

Where's Vince McMahon when you need him?

Called you on labelling races minorities that weren't, especially in light of the "FACTS".

The sort of thinking where one race believe they are superior or know what's best for the "lesser" race(s) who happen to be in their way. When did Italian immigrants ever count as a minority? Russians? Irish?

Rich, you get the tag back, I've got work to do.

Sorry OT. I can't take the tag. I'm working too hard on keeping my pro wrestling analogy going.

So, anyway, what's up with that new Bond CD on the B.com homepage. Is it out yet? I want to hear something from it.

I'll take the tag for Ajax for a moment. . .I took a class on Immigration a while back. . .great class by the way.
While Italians, Russians, and Irish were never really "minorities" as the definition suits, they were seen as a lesser class, like "minorities" have been in modern times.
Most people think that Latinos from Mexico (this is a terrible thought, by the way) should be working the lower-paying job, and that their skill set defines that they should be working construction, etc. Although this is the wrong impression, many people had these thoughts about immigrants back in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries as well. If you've seen Gangs of New York or Far and Away, you get a small taste of this in regards to the Irish.
I think that this is what Ajax meant to communicate, not neccessarily that they were "minorites" in the strictest sense, but that people looked down on them as inferior. (for all the wrong reasons, I might add).

If anyone has any questions about European history, I'm always glad to see if I can help. . .it was my focus!

Rich, I'll have you know that photo of me was taken while performing one of those "Aryan" operas( Lohengrin ).

Now now, don't put words in my mouth, OT. That's not very nice. Sure I recognize racial differences, but not to the degree that you are continually attempting to label me as such.

Having just had some remodeling done, I'd hardly call construction a lower-paying job!

And to be screamingly PC ... while saying 'latino from Mexico' gets the idea across, the adjective chicano means someone (or their parents) who was born in Mexico and now lives in the US.

Saxy, that is what I tried to put across in a previous post. That the immigrants who have been living here a generation always look down their noses at those coming right now.

Well I just wish I could recall where I read about the origins of the Aryans. It hasn't been that long ago (that I read it, not that the Aryans invaded).

Loss of memory. I hate getting old.

Exactly Rich, they do. And working here with latinos, I never know what to call them . . .I usually ask what they like to be called. Mexican doesn't work, sometimes latino doesn't. . .it's all relative, I suppose. But yes, we did learn in our class that those who were immigrants and are no longer, look down on those who are currently immigrants.
It's a never-ending cycle.
