From the SD Union:
KJAZZ is gone, baby, real gone;
and in its place, XBACH is back :D

September 19, 2001
Tidbits from the world of broadcasting ...
By popular demand, the owners of KJAZZ/AM 540 have switched the station's format back to classical music and have reinstituted the call letters XBACH. Saul Levine, president of the Los Angeles-based Mount Wilson FM Broadcasters Inc., announced the changes Sept. 8, but news of the reversal was overshadowed by last week's terrorists attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.
XBACH came into existence in 1997. In June of last year, XBACH was dumped and replaced by KJAZZ, relaying programming carried by sister station KJAZZ/AM 1260 of Los Angeles. This week, Levine explained both switches: "We were not getting the (advertising) support we needed (for XBACH), and there was KFSD/FM (92.1) in the picture, which fragmented the whole scene. Once KFSD/FM left classical programming, it opened up an opportunity that didn't exist before." Despite its format, KJAZZ carried the annual broadcasts of live performances of operas from the stage of New York's Metropolitan Opera. XBACH will air the Met beginning in December and is talking about resuming San Diego Opera radio programming. As XBACH, the station's last jazz-program commitment will be a five-hour John Coltrane program Sept. 29, Levine said.

If I'm not mistaken, they also broadcast live the Thursday evening performances of the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. At least they did until I moved from Southern California!
:eek:
