Yep! Always great to get requests played. . .I also requested some Smetana. . .don't want to be greedy, but I haven't heard any in a while. Maybe HRH will be able to squeeze it in!

LHuffman
I heard the Trumpet version of Rhapsody in Blue that you asked about. Here are the details:

Composer Gershwin, G.
Title Rhapsody In Blue
Artist Timofei Dokschitzer, trumpet/Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater

I know! I'm so excited! I actually requested two pieces, but HRH picked the Seven Veils, which is a great piece.

I love hearing that. . .she's going to play TreeBeau's request shortly as well. Too bad he already went home and will likely miss it.

Stever,
Dokschitzer is an incredible trumpet player.
I have recordings of him (yes on vinyl 33 1/3)
I love listening to him play!

Howard K.

Hi Howard,

Have you ever heard of or met Calvin Price? He's the principal trumpet for the San Diego symphony. He had one of the original Prana C trumpets, I believe.

OT,
No. Heard his name before but I have not had that opportunity.
Prana C Trumpet. Have to check that model out.
I recently bought a Scherzer Rotary Valve Piccolo Trumpet. Always on the PROWL for new tools to add to my arsenal.
If SDG Symphony comes to NY area I'll have to make sure I get out to the performance.
Tks,
Howard :)

Hi Howard,

Calvin says David Monette custom made it for him. It's gold plated and really wild looking, like a trumpet from the Jetson's.

He's had it for several years.

OT,
I am familiar with Monette trumpets. Have to check this out. I have a Gold Plated Eb Trumpet.
An old French Besson Pre WWII. Plays great! I bet it is an excellent horn.
Tks,
Howard .

My great uncle had a Besson cornet made in 1905. It was silver plated with intricate scrollwork engraved all over it. He had another silver Besson that was about the same age, unadorned. He liked the former the best, said at one time his embouchure was light enough he could hang that cornet from a string and blow it without holding onto it.

He was a dance band and dixie player.

TM, i had no idea until just now what a cornet was!
i always thought it was headgear worn by ladies from the 12th century. looove learning something new everyday!

are they brass also?
(the cornet, not the headpeice) :D

The headpiece thing is a coronet (literally, "little crown") and probably should be something better than brass. The cornet is, indeed, brass. It looks much like a trumpet but is smaller.

If you're really interested in the brass instruments, look at the Dynasty or Yamaha websites; they both have good illustrations and descriptions of the marching brass. Or, since you're in Denver, drop in on a Blue Knights rehearsal on the weekend, view a demonstration of various size marching brass. (Don't get in the way of the drum line.) :D

Drum corps. The drum corps. If you want the good local show, Drums Along the Rockies is in Denver, July 16. If Esperanza is on the field, kindly wave at my kid.

Uh, the Blue Knights are a cop-related motorcycle club. They're nation-wide, however, not just particular to the northeast.

The m/c club came waaaaay before the drum corpse.

Oh, I mean, corps.
