From the world's most advanced rumor mill

This is all over the web, this morning.
ESPN Radio might be switching their Big Apple service to 96.3-FM.
Do the call letters WQXR mean anything to anyone here?

ai4i,

Yes... 96.3-FM WQXR is the Classical Music/NY Times News station here in my area.
I only listen to WQXR in my car. B.com will be programmed in my car as soon as the
signal can be received in my car.

Yeah we heard that one too? Has the NY Times shut down the classical yet? I heard they were leasing the signal out to ESPN. Sad really.

As for getting Beethoven.com on your car radio... It's closer then you think! Check this out!

That Blaupunkt has been around for a few weeks and I would love one. They can make it a bit more affordable by leaving out the AM/FM tuner. It might work in my area with at&t or T-mobile, the two GSM servers. Meanwhile, many Windows Mobile devices, new BlackBerrys, at&t's iPhone, and possibly T-mobil's G-phone (with a down-loadable app) will stream audio by one or more of: WMA, RA, MP3, and/or variations thereof. Lots of Wifi radios are now available from Grace and CCrane that work through the Reciva.com server, but only function within "hot spots".

Still churning in the rumor mill, and maybe the corporate offices.

BTW...tried to PM you with the QXR question, but was unable, either due to my PC or the web site.

Sorry I did not get your PM. Sometimes I don't see the email for a few days and forget to check the Inbox. That may be my bad.

I can get the station on my iTouch. I just bring up the website through safari and it connects right away. My fiancee listens through a different app that has better sound. I'll ask him which one and post the details. I do know that Turner Internet Radio is an app that lets you stream us too.

The final word.
In a swap involving two stations and three broadcasting entities, a shadow of WQXR is saved.
The New York Times gains $45 million and leaves the broadcasting business.
Univision gains the rights to 96.3 and will program, "La Kalle", a spanish pop format currently being aired on 105.9.
The WNYC Foundation gains the rights to 105.9 and maintains the WQXR brand on that frequency.

The new WQXR is not commercially funded, but will be listener supported, as the two WNYC stations are.
At 105.9, WQXR's signal will be reduced by 10dB for all points in space.

WNYC Splash Screen
WQXR old signal on 96.3
WQXR new signal on 105.9
