I am a relative forum rookie. I love classical music, but don't really know how to hold a conversation about it. I know names of composers, and their music. I have music experience, but a batted fastball to the mouth ended my trumpet career about 15 years ago. Years of lip muscle ripped away in an instant.

I'll read everything, but post only if I have something interesting to say. No reason to junk the place up with blabber.

Wow, that answer could fill volumes!

If I were pined down to one, I believe it is Aaron Copland. There is so much to hear in his works. His music reminds me of a room full of exquisite art, or a perfectly prepared five-course-meal. He can stir emotion in me that is difficult to explain.

Ask me again in the winter, and I could argue Chopin is my favorite. With Les Sylphieds being my preferred listening.

I am learning that I lean towards ballet suites.

Indeed! I'll take a look then.

I appreciate everyone’s condolences. The baseball accident is far past me now, and turned into a very prosperous mechanical engineering career. I would love to be playing for the Cincinnati Symphony (or anyone else), but I am happy with how my life has turned out. I have no remorse, or regrets. If I would have continued down the musical path, I would not have met my wife, nor have my two wonderful children.

I also enjoy some of Chopin's works, mainly his noctures, ballades and scherzos.

My favorite composers are Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Mozart and Schumann (in approximate order).

I love orchestral music, but chamber music I crave!

Ballet suites! There are some great ones out there. I just ordered a CD of Prokofiev's suites for Romeo and Juliet.

Yes, well said about Mozart and Beethoven. They are a given for many classical music fans.

I haven't experience alot of Mozart's Piano Concertos, movements from various concertos here and there, but I do have the Beethoven Piano Concertos. I'd say # 4 is my favorite, with the 2nd mvt. Adagio from # 2, and the Rondo mvt. from # 3 being my favorite individual mvts.

Tough luck about the baseball. Life changing events can be unpleasant, but they have ways of working out.

Most of us have fairly eclectic tastes here. We have lots of music we like, some we adore, and some we abhor. Lots of people have strong feelings about Ravel's Bordello. I like it, but it's not something I request.

I really like Holst's The Planets, Respighi's Pines of Rome, a lot of Tchaikovsky, a lot of Grofe (but he was a bit spotty), and a lot of the greats that go without saying.

When it comes to ballet suites, I enjoy the music, but attending a performance - that's a perfect evening!
