I thought I'd share this with you.
My father passed away almost 11 years ago, at the age of 54. Our father was an organ donor.
The Transplant Co-ordinator wrote back to my sister saying that the heart recipient of my father's heart is alive and well and continues to have a functioning heart transplant. Also, the recipient of my father's liver has had almost 11 years with the transplant, although now has recently been re-listed for a second liver transplant.
It is an enormous comfort, and a great joy to my mother, my sister and I to know that our father has in a small way (or large way as he had a large heart
It was a difficult decision to make at the time of my father's death, but it was definitely the right choice to make, and am pleased to no end that my father was able to help give the gift of life to his/her fellow human being.
