1 - the ocean
2 - Winters. Mostly, the fact that we don't actually have them.
3 - Sunset view off any of several of our alleged mountains (they're actually fair-sized hills)
4 - The air feels right.
5 - The WGASA bush line.

(I just moved out of the Hartford area to the Northwest Hills of CT... I'm now in farm country.)

1. All the trees, land and no neighbors!
2. Farms - everywhere.
3. You can see the stars at night!
4. Small town, everyone knows everyone.
5. Great arts community.

I live in the boonies, so my likes are similar to Nicole Marie's:

1. Peace and quiet
2. The stars at night
3. The Mississippi River
4. Low cost of living
5. Short commute

1. The smell of fertilizer and cows every few days.
2. Watching deer or turkeys go through your property at dawn and dusk while listening to woodpeckers throughout the day or frogs at night in the summertime.
3. Step onto your backyard deck and stare into pine forest like you're on perpetual vacation.
4. Having yearly, neighborhood block parties once a year so you can see your neighbors up close that you only see at 1/2 acre distances throughout the year.
5. Being one symphony away from work.

Usually a Mahler symphony; Mozart on light traffic days. I have to watch the weather and traffic forecast to choose symphonies.

I suppose on an extra light traffic day Schubert's unfinished would do.

Schubert's unfinished is actually longer than some Mozart symphonies.

* The ocean - for scuba diving, picnics, beaching and generally resting my soul

* The mountains - for hiking, backpacking, viewing and resting my soul

* The Wine country - for wine, food, beauty, and resting my soul

* The people - our friends and neighbors with whom we seek fun, fellowship, refuge, and comfort

* The climate - moderate, comfortable and lots of fresh air


I could go on and on.....We love it here.

that's pretty much all I like in New Haven.

1. The nice neighbours.

2. The trees in my garden, and in particular the jacaranda and the cherry, and the tuis they bring in Spring. The crop of pears that this year is so heavy it's broken some branches.

3. The parks where I walk my dog, and the hill in one of them that gives me a panoramic view of most of this town.

4. The beaches- the wild west coast, with its black sand, and the more sedate east, with tawny sand.

5. The sight of the city from the Waitemata Harbour in the evening as the lights come on.

Well, there are more things I love about the city I used to live in, but here goes:

My wife lives here.
My cats live here.
Smithsonian Museums
Public Transportation
My laundry room

The weather
The social diversity and reasonably general acceptance of such
Skiing, mountain hiking and playing in the waves, all reasonably close.
Good food, in abundance
Heavy concentration of biotech

Hmmmm...
1. My family...though I rarely get to see them (damn work!)
2. The easy to use mass transit and the fact that my employer gives me free yearly transit pass sticker.
3. Our family beach house is in oregon and my friends and I are going there this weekend
4a. It's not new orleans 4b and now it only takes 5.5 hours to fly home to hawaii
5. No sales tax!...oh wait that's why I get screwed on property and income tax

Here's my list for hawaii
1. My family
2. my friends
3. you can actually feel the sun when it's shining...unlike here in oregon
4. no snow...ever
5. the food! Oh how I miss my favorite foods!

YAY for Yale! My brother went there and I've pretty much been in love with it ever since!!

My list (in no particular order):
*Family and friends (although my friends are my family)
*My clarinet teacher because she's ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!
*Wal-Mart Supercenter (because I hate regular Wal-Marts)
*The land because I <3 it
*The Canteen and Graham's Ice Cream (the best places to eat in town)

And that's my super great list!

1. wide variety of culture (art museums, Lots of music, etc.)
2. can get anywhere in about 20 min - any mall, into the city, out into the countryside
3. lack of hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, forest/brush fires and major flooding (I don't mind the snow, it always melts and is rarely as damaging as any of the above weather)
4. tons of stuff to do with kids - zoo, museums, beach, parks, farms, festivals of which there is pretty much one of some kind or other every weekend starting with the Lilac Festival in May through to Octoberfest. (and stuff going on in winter too!)*
5. my family is here, I grew up here, it's home!

*so hard for me sometimes to wait for the kids to be old enough to enjoy the many things around here....
