Top Ten Symphonic Movements

Postby hal 9000 » Wed Mar 28, 2007 1:17 pm

Serenity has chosen the next excellent topic: Top Ten Symphonic Movements. Take a few moments to think of the very best symphonic movements, list them in order of preference, and submit that list to me no later than Monday, April 2nd, 2007 @ 6:00PM EST. I will post the results later that evening.

Restrictions:
All lists must name at least 3 different composers (to keep things a bit interesting). Examples:

Acceptable
8 movements from Composer A
1 movement from Composer B
1 movement from Composer C

1 movement each from Composers A thru J

Unacceptable
10 movements from Composer A

9 movements from Composer A
1 movement from Composer B

Special Request: I do not have time to compile a list until later this evening, so please compile your lists for now, but do not PM them to me until I announce that I have my list ready later this evening. After which, the first person to submit a list will receive my list in return.

This isn't a bad idea, but it is problematic in that I currently only have the file set up to easily process a max of 20 lists... so if more than 10 people want to submit 2 lists, I have a nightmare of data processing to do. That and I am not sure how to fairly judge which is better: A primary list that scores 30 pts or a secondary list (which technically would be #11-20) that scores 31 pts?

For now, keep it at one list and I'll see if I can develop a way to incorporate secondary lists...

Catmando- I'll have my list ready this evening... standby.

TrumpetSon and TrumpetDotter could also submit, if they wanted. I don't know that we have an age limit established. (Altoid has an account.)

My list is in! Interestingly (at least to me :) ), I had an almost equal representation of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th movements. Nothing dominated.

I'm surprised there are only 4 entries so far in the Top 10 Favorite Symphonic Movements.

I expected this to be one where vast participation would occur.

Probably alot easier to name 10 different movements you enjoy than 10 complete symphonies, for casual classical listeners.

I would expect at least 12 to 15 lists to be sent Hal's way. Oh well, there is still today and the weekend for the lists to come flooding in! :D
