Where did you go?

First notice the key symbol in the bottom right corner of the picture. This is the key to the puzzle itself. The colors shown indicate which clues you should solve first to which you should solve last. So the flow should have been solve the clues highlighted in blue first (the 4 pictures in the top left corner). Next solve the clue highlighted in orange (the letter 'A' in the word August). Next solve the clues highlighted in green (the 7 pictures of famous people spread out on different days of the week). And finally, solve the clue highlighted in purple (the pack of paper).

So following that order, here is the breakdown:

BLUE

Pic 1: the Greek letter Φ (phi)
Pic 2: A kitten licking its paw (licks)
Pic 3: That is father of modern Genetics, Gregor (Mendel)
Pic 4: Is simply the (sun)

ORANGE

This clue is simply the letter (A)

GREEN

The pictures shown are (in chronological order):

Sir Roger Daltrey, lead singer of "The Who"
Sir Ian McKellan, you know, Gandalf!
Sir Elton John, conveniently placed on the day (or rather night) he says is "Alright for Fighting"
Sir Anthony Hopkins, you know, Hannibal Lecter!
Sir Eric Clapton, slow hand himself!
And now for something completely different... Sir Michael Palin
And finally, Sir Michael Caine, the original Alfie and the new Alfred.

All of these gentleman were placed during the week that happens to be the midpoint between the Summer Solstice and the Autumnal Equinox, making them (Midsummer Knights).

PURPLE

A ream of paper with the letter "D" on it, making it a (D-ream).

Hal, I didn't even think of 3/4 of the clues you have in there, in the way you laid them out, yet still managed to solve the puzzle.

I figured the list of British people were all "Sirs", so I was originally looking for a composer by the name of Sir.

I thought then that it was Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Nights' Dream, because "kitten" rhymes with "Britten". I had the right composition, wrong composer.

Then I just thought the Sirs were for William Shakespeare, whom, I don't even know if he's a Sir or not. ??

Those clues were meant to help solve the identity of Gregor Mendel.

D = Dominant gene (such as brown eyes in humans)
r = Recessive gene (such as blue eyes in humans)

If you have two parents, one with 2 dominant genes for a particular trait and the other with 1 dominant gene and 1 recessive for the same trait, their offspring will inherit one of the following configurations:

Dominant Dominant (brown eyes)
Dominant recessive (brown eyes)
Dominant Dominant (brown eyes)
Dominant recessive (brown eyes)

All resultant in brown eyes for their offspring, but with a 50% that their offspring will retain the blue eyed recessive genes (making it possible for their offspring to inherit blue eyes).
