D = Dominant gene (such as brown eyes in humans)
r = Recessive gene (such as blue eyes in humans)
If you have two parents, one with 2 dominant genes for a particular trait and the other with 1 dominant gene and 1 recessive for the same trait, their offspring will inherit one of the following configurations:
Dominant Dominant (brown eyes)
Dominant recessive (brown eyes)
Dominant Dominant (brown eyes)

All resultant in brown eyes for their offspring, but with a 50% that their offspring will retain the blue eyed recessive genes (making it possible for their offspring to inherit blue eyes).

Oh....
I thought it was more to do with the way the music started Dmajor Dminor , etc.(even though this composition in E minor), at least until the blue and brown came along.
