I bought a copy of Pachelbel's Greatest Hit yesterday, the one with a dozen or so different versions of the Canon. It's quite enjoyable but by the end of it I had had enough.

I have Peter Schickele's WTWP Talkity-Talk Radio CD as well. The WTWP stands for "Wall-To-Wall Pachelbel". It's quite funny.

We have a Brass Quintet arrangement of the Canon in D.
The poor Tuba player has to play that line over and over...

No wonder the cringes whenever we even mention playing this piece...

:D

I'd chime in with the sympathy, but I'm an alto.
I submit the alto line of Totus Tuus for comparison.
13 pages, 11 of which are E-flat. A capella.

Can I sing the tuba player's part, please?
Altoid - curiously strong.

I'd be making things up. Counter melodies, stolen Tenor lines, random harmonies with whoever had the melody at the time...

Well, if you can sing the tuba player's part. It's pretty low for an alto.

There are lots of "straight" versions of the Canon that differ considerably. My favorite is the Jean Francois Paillard version --- the 7-min I have on record, not the 6-min I have on CD.

It's also the finale of my 3rd attempted DVD. Still haven't gotten the sound quality I want. It goes with a dozen Dutch harbor scenes. Wish me luck on the sound.

Good luck on the sound, and welcome back. I'd ask for particulars regarding the issues you have with the sound, but I'm heading out for a few days, so I wouldn't be able to answer them.

That was HI-larious! Not as good as the link I got yesterday to the blog that posted pics and commentary from a 1977 JC Penney's catalog. But pretty funny!

And, hey, noticed it was recorded at Penn State - any Penn Staters out there: WE ARE....(fill in the blank)
