I have a great deal of empathy for women who suffer the ravages of the "beast" every month. (and for those around them  ) Hopefully this will bring relief to the desperate, but, were it me, I would be reluctant to mess around with normal bodily cycles and functions with hormone treatments etc. Scary stuff...and who knows what the long term affects may be.

...long term effects...

At an average of two extra loads of laundry per cycle, times thirteen cycles per calendar year, times about 35 years, I make that seventeen and a half extra-huge Liquid Tide bottles a girl won't have to buy in a lifetime. Plus the associated coldwater bleach. Plus the water itself, the energy cost of running the laundry machines.

Then there are the other "supplies".

On the "discomfort" issue, as male gynecologists usually refer to the matter, I've had fullblown food poisoning episodes that caused me less discomfort.

The side effects of hormonal contraceptives are all a milder case of the common side effects of pregnancy itself. Honest.

Oh, yeah. I'm sticking with "About Time!". Wish it'd been in time for me...

I hear what you are saying. I have a very dear friend who, after years of suffering through severe and protracted cycles, finally threw in the towel and had a hysterectomy. She's been great ever since (after a 6 week recovery)

There are known and severe side effects to pre-menopausal hysterectomy. I'd gamble on this new pill instead.

'Discomfort' - that's being found curled on the bathroom floor, yellow/grey and covered with cold sweat. Not sure what it takes to get it labeled 'pain'.

To the expenses and cost to the environment, lets add the packaging from the 24-hour eating spree that occurs ~13 times a year (or up to 15 times, for some unlucky gals). And the extra flushes as the body rids itself of the extra salt.

Then there's the 1x/month sick day taken by a fair share of the workforce, most of whom would hope their boss never looks at a calendar because the pattern gets predictable pretty quickly.
Altoid - curiously strong.
