Piq's right. Training at the art of unscrewing the inscrutable is a definite asset with this bunch.

I, however, won't need the benefit of that particular facet of your experitse.....

;)

Selma, is that "unscrewing the insrutable", or "unscrewing the unscrewable"?!

I couldn't help it....

Hi Y.R.H.,

Thanks for the response regarding e-mail. I know it's tough, but felt moved to ask.

First, let me start by thanking you for your suggestions. I stayed up all night thinking of a way to respond to your thoughts. Here it is... BigJon, if I make TOO many improvements to this UBB Forum, management will decide to stay with it. You said you're familiar with phpBB, and vBulletin. There's also Ikonboard, and Invision Power Board, any of which I would personally prefer. I'll try to tackle some of the cosmetic changes. [/b]
I see your place works a lot like the places in which I've consulted. :)

I'll have to look up those other two as I administer several boards and we are thinking of adding some more. Whatever you do, don't choose community server http://communityserver.org/ It doesn't even let you jump to the first unread post at all. It's a royal pain in the rear-end to use, but a very valuable community to one of my hobbies uses it so I grit my teeth every day when I am on it.

If you switch, all I care about is that the precious, old threads aren't lost. Also if you could bring the old, closed forums forward as an archive that would be cool too.

I'm afraid the New vs Old Posts indications aren't working for me.
I still see "unread" indications for messages I know that I have read and threads I know I have visited.
Is it me?

I find that if a post happens while I'm on the BBB, the "unread" icon will stay there even if I exit and return. The next time exit and return, it changes to "read" (unless someone else posts).

So, for example, the "Helping Hands" topic will show "unread" the during the rest of this visit to the BBB, since I am posting this while I'm on the site. If I exit MSIE, then come back to the BBB, it will still show "unread," but if I exit MSIE AGAIN, then it will show "read."

I have no idea why, but I've gotten used to it over the years.

I haven't noticed it to be any worse than it was before. Are you staying logged in? Sometime the indicators get messed up when I get logged out automatically.

YES! We are getting it! In fact we are currently re-designing the Beethoven.com website... I think you will like it! We hope to launch by mid-July. When we launch the site the BBB will be upgraded as well. :jump:

Are you sure the released version of phpBB 3 will be available by then? I'd heard it won't be done until Sept.

Cool. We are going through the steps to do the same upgrade on the site I help administer. We are very exicted about how easy it is to customize the forum template to color and shape it to the way we want it to be.
