Don't forget the powerful film Brain Man starring TOm Cruise and Dustin Hoffman

And the Bob Dylan classic A Hard Brain's a-gonna fall

and there was that terrible movie starring Ernest Borgnine: The Devil's Brain

and the ever-popular musical Singing in the Brain

and that terrible movie starring Prince, Purple Brain

and finally, that documentary film Saving the Brain Forest.

In an attempt to refine Brainwave's English skills, I suggest that he/she repeat the following phrase at least 10 times a day:

"The brain in Spain, stays mainly in the plain"
Jamie

"Leave it better than you found it"

Coming up next, Hitchcock's classic thriller, Strangers on a Brain, followed by Sean Connery in The Great Brain Robbery. Stay tuned, at ten o'clock its' the network premier of the film based on Robin Cook's bestseller: Comma. Don't miss it.

Mama Boo chiming in with a mild scolding....

Y'all - cut BW some slack. Stretch your brains a tad.
Its pretty clear BW is an ESL poster.
Read the posts phonetically. Believes = beliefs admires = ?admirers? etc.

If, If, can be read as emphatic. as can ???

If I posted: When, when haggis gets the MRHYN out to our neck of the woods ....
you'd all get the point I meant "when" and not "if".

So, argue with the expressed opinions, but dont make fun of the spelling. (Or even the devotion to the comma).

I cant quite figure out whats with the oft-repeated "Tell me I dont have a BRAIN" tho. :dunce:

I see. Thanks.

I think I alluded to that probability earlier. I wasn't making fun of him, I was just making fun... :)

I'm not too sure about the ESL status of poster. Working with a bunch of ESL and E3L and E4L types, it's my observation that use of definite and indefinite articles ("the" and "a") and subject/verb number agreement are the hardest thing to consistently get correct in English. BW is consistently correct in these things.

My local Filipino, Iranian, Spanish, Guamanian, Taiwanese, Latino, etc types all have trouble with this. BW doesn't. :suspicion:

Your conclusion is spelling-challenged? Could be.

I asked BW somewhere what his? first language was. No reply.

I think religion is more of a construct to constrain people. It has limited success in part due to its inherent bureaucratic need to self-perpetuate.

Some say that without religion there would be no civilization. I do not know if this is true, but it is true that in nearly all civilizations the temple, church, or other place of worship normally holds a very prominent position.

I suppose it is possible that a Godless empire has risen somewhere, a civilation with no supernatural belief or religious structure, but I am not aware of it. From China to Native America, Maya to Aborigine, I am aware of no culture that has developed without some basic religious belief. Atheism seems to develop and flourish only in the security of cultures already established upon religious morals.

Can someone name for me a great culture that has risen without a religious foundation?

I could while away the hours, conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the brain.
And my head I'd be scratchin' while
my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain.
I'd unravel every riddle for any individ'le,
In trouble or in pain.
With the thoughts you'll be thinkin'
you could be another Lincoln
If you only had a brain.
Oh, I could tell you why The ocean's near the shore.
I could think of things I never thunk before.
And then I'd sit, and think some more.
I would not be just a nothin' my head all full of stuffin'
My heart all full of pain.
I would dance and be merry, life would be a ding-a-derry,
If I only had a brain.

Brainwaves,

I apologize for initiating a little childish fun at you expense on such a serious topic. I will try to give my thoughts when I have more time; maybe through private messaging.

Frankly, I like your username; it brings back so many memories (tee-hee)
