Shapley,

It's just that since I invested in those BOSS headphones.. you can hear a distinct difference
between 32KBPS and 96KBPS...

I am no expert in this area but your assumption is probably correct.

Well, I bragged too much. The stream just died. I've switched over to WMP.

Mine has been fine all morning, until about five minutes ago, when it died. I've just restarted it, with no problems. [crossed fingers icon]

I just don't understand how the stream can be clean on WMP and so bad on RP.

If WMP had the same problems then I would figure it's something
affecting the stream through work over here.. but it's clean..........

go figure........

I would suspect it might be a compatability issue between RealPlayer and some other software on the computer.

I've noticed that RealPlayer performance diminishes after I use Qicktime to view videos. I try to avoid doing so for that reason. It used to be that I could not run certain programs and listen to the stream, a memory allocation problem I believe. That problem disappeared when we switched to Windows XP Professional. We refuse to switch over to Vista since XP has (finally) gotten the bugs worked out for the most part. We don't want to start all over again.

We've considered switching to Macs, if it can be done painlessly within the network.

Shapley,

We use XP Professional SP2.

You might be right about the software thing....
Unfortunately, the only programs I run are Excel, Word, MS Project, and Novell Groupwise
while listening to B.com Stream.
It may be something running in the background that RP just does not like....

Thanks!

I think this is the last straw with RP.

RP would not run the B.com stream until I upgraded the RP version on my computer.
Well, I upgraded the version and each time I try to run the stream I get a security error message
to go back to b.com as my session has expired. I am re-booting my computer and
if this does not resolve the problem it will leave me no alternative but to cancel
my subscription.... AGAIN....

this is SO FRUSTRATING......

I understand your frustration. I have been able to listen continuously to RealPlayer only about three days a week since the start of the year. Once the signal begins to suffer frequent interruptions, I switch to WMP, with which I never seem have problems.

Shapley,

Sorry to hear you are also having RP issues....
I listen to WMP without any problems....

I've sent emails to Real Player about the poor quaility and
have asked for a credit to my account as the service has not been usable.

All emails have been ignored....

Unfortunately that does not leave subscribers much choice......

TM

T/M

So far today, no problems with RP, other than a momentary glitch a few minutes ago that required a rebuffering.

As an aside: I've noticed in traveling recently that many hotels have replaced the traditional alarm-clock radio with wi-fi radio receivers. This usually offer five pre-set stations (one country, one pop, one rock, one classical (sometimes) and one jazz. I saw one someplace that had hip-hop in place of one of the presets, but I don't recall where. Not being a techno-wizard, my home has satelite internet, but not a wi-fi sytem. How much trouble is it to convert the home to wi-fi so I can set up a radio similar to those so I can listen to B.com 24/7 without being tied to the computer?

Also, is there such a thing as a wi-fi adapter that plugs into the home stereo aux input jack that will allow one to listen to internet radio over your existing stereo system? I've found internet radio receivers readily available, but not an adapter to wire the home stereo for internet.

I've never had my e-mails to Real ignored. Then again, I've never asked them for credit to my account, just that they fix the problem.

They've always been responsive. E-mail Chris, he has, or had, a connection at Real. He may be able to prod them (again) to get results.

Hi All, sorry for the Real troubles. The stream is looking good on our end but I went ahead and rebooted the encoder to see if that helps. Also, when it starts skipping and such, try logging out of your Real account (Help - Sign Out) and then log back in and occasionally that will help.
Sincerely,

Chris,
Thanks...
I am still having the same issue.

The RP error message says my connection has timed out and to go back to b.com
website to "re-connect"

Chris H. on your end has been very helpful.... and it looks like my RP account is
hosed up at this point. The RP Tech team cannot seem to correct it and actually
are telling me its the firewall here at work stopping me from getting the B.com stream.

When I told them I could get the stream on WMP they said it could be something in
the protocol and I had to have one of my admin people here modify my internet
options. Is that possible? WMP works just fine.....

Just a guess on my part, but it could be that a bit rate limit could be imposed by your company's firewall. Since the RP stream has a lot higher bit rate than the WMP stream, it could exceed the threshold point.

Which means you'll have to get your company's IT department to do you a favor (fat chance of that happening).

Can you get any streaming video such as NASA TV?
