I'm sorry, but there are a very small number of Classical pieces I never care to hear of again, one of them being Bolero. Lately, beethoven.com tends to air it faithfully every morning between 6 to 6:30am EST.
Ever have flu fever or sleep deprivation delerium? Well, that is what Bolero reminds me of every time I hear it and I have to change the channel immediately. I'm not trying to change your line-up, I'm just saying, that's all.

Hijack alert! This is the thread for people who want to complain about P&tW (except for those of us who like to rejoice in P&tW) and the thread for whining (or rejoicing) about Bolero is over in the Nicole Marie forum.

I've gotten the speakers working again (reseat the sound card, reseat the out connectors, dust and defuzz everything else inside the computer...) and am now prepared to enjoy the story, next time we get someone to tell me the Peter and the Wolf story...

I'm pretty sure that Peter should be speaking with a West Vahjinyah (or possibly Gawgia) accent. It was the line about the pickup truck that gave him away.

Is it just that I'm the only one here with a Scandaloovian sense of humor? Or do the rest of yez not get the visuals that I so enjoy?

Peter is clearly a backwoods hellion (nevermind what continent the backwoods are on) and his poor old Grandpa is one of those skinny, grumpy old dudes that never gives up and never gives in. Probably wears overalls and a gimme cap.

Bolero comes with a bunch of different visuals but they are all disneyesque. I enjoy them exceedingly, particularly when the trumpets are mocking the clarinets! (Clarinets deserve to be mocked. They sound like cheese.)

I'm beginning to have second thoughts about that Beethoven Fantasia/9th symphony thing. All that joy is beginning to give me a headache.

Disney version: wolf is forced to swallow vial of Ipecac, throws up, duck is fine but needs a bath.
Russian version: wolf makes a nice rug in front of Grandpa's fire, hunters are invited to share nice duck dinner.

In a book version we have - the duck puts up such a racket that the wolf spits him out. In the movie I think he also spits him out... in one of those they take the wolf to the zoo, in the other it's back to the forest and the wolf promises not to come back to the meadow.

I think this is the first time I ever actually heard PatW here on b.com. Always missed it before now...

Now we have Dudley Moore telling the story. It sounds like he's in his "Arthur" character, and I keep expecting to hear Liza Minnelli.

Dudley's asides might even be better than Jonathan Winters'. I'm enjoying this!
