I'm not opposed to medically supervised steroid use in professional sports. We ask our “heroes” to play huge quantities of games for our enjoyment. We expect of them to play hurt. Steroids, when used at medical doses, can speed healing and slow long-term degradation to vital body systems used in sports activities.

They are a tool like any other. Abused, they do damage. Used properly, they pay benefits. I think that if the players knew they could legally use steroids when appropriate, there would be less pressure to try to take the illegal routes such as massive doses, black market doses, and other, more harmful, products.
