Classical back in Miami..

During the past few years, a couple of Miami radio moments occurred that were really hard to swallow.. First, WTMI 93.1 classical radio went off the air some 5 years ago (although WTMI.com still points to a Beethoven.com site in Connecticut). Then last month, Christian radio station WMCU 89.7 went off the air...

I would still like to have more Christ on the airwaves, but if I can't have that, then having 89.7 FM go to a classical format is the next best thing.

OK Miami, lets show American Public Media that classical has worked here before, and will do so again!!

If there is anything constant about the broadcast business, it's change.

Los Angeles lost their classical station, then their jazz station changed to classical. Deecee lost their classical station, and the best we have is NPR unless we can get a stream.

I have been trying to access this board for several months now and thought it had gone the way of the dinosaur. Now I see that it was given a bigtime makeover and obsoleted all my link shortcuts.

We were all hoping that APMG would aquire the WTMI callsign and with it, bring a lot of good will to the new station. Alas, they went with WKCP

Heated debates are raging on several discussion boards regarding the demise of WMCU, the Christian music station of thirty seven years. My response on several follows:

The great JS Bach signed all his manuscripts with "Soli Deo Gloria", Grace Only Unto God. I refer all attendees to some of the most spiritual music their is:
Mass in B minor, by JS Bach
Resurection Symphony, by Gustav Mahler
Requiem Mass, by Gabriel Faure
And for those of you not into "super oldies", a more recent "must hear" piece is
Ecce Cor Meum, Interlude, by Sir Paul McCartney

And, even though it was I and not the Beethoven board who went away, I still feel like welcoming you all back...now, I will get to correcting my shortcuts!

On a recent trip to Miami (first week in May) I was delighted to find a classical station once again broadcasting in the FM band.

Seems it was 89.7 but i forgot to remember -
