Our ITiots are also contractors and the rationale for blocking audio streaming is "it uses bandwidth". Bandwidth is apparently something that costs money to the contractor, or reduces the contractor's profit margin, and is therefore guarded by humorless digital hit-men.
At least our contractors are the low-bid guys, and have to continually tweak the servers for every security issue that arises. All their bandwidth blocks have sooner or later gone non-functional because one of the tweaks did something dire to the block and we get audio streaming back for a while.
The last few patches have let WinMedia streams through at work, but they block the specialized player. Maybe the next patch will let the player get through. Let me go find those red sparkly shoes and I'll click my heels, scrunch up my face, and wish real hard. That might help.
**May the security patches befuddle the firewall demons and let the player through.**
