Nicolas Flagello, Anyone?

Postby shostakovich » Wed Jul 02, 2008 12:03 pm

During my absence from the BBB I've been corresponding with an old acquaintance who has been pushing American "traditionalist" composers. He has written some books on the subject, and, I believe, is working on one about the piano music of Persichetti. His favorite composer, and one he has promoted for Naxos, is Flagello. His name is Walter Simmons. If you google Flagello and look for a biography, it will probably be written by Simmons. What I'm asking of BBB members is "Do you know any music of Flagello?" I'm just curious. I am not proselytizing for Flagello.

No.

But I'm open to hearing some.

I just placed a request for "any Flagello" stuff. Now to see if there is any in the library.

Thanks, Barfle, Selma, for the responses. I'm taking the "no comments" as "no Flagello". Curiosity satisfied.

Would you believe that when I finally checked my email today, there was a note from Nicole Marie saying that she'd found a Flagello piece and would be playing it in the upcoming hour. Sadly, I'm on the wrong coast and wasn't settled in front of the computer in time. She played "Tarantello" at 10:40 on the 3rd. You can request it again, now that we know B.com owns it, and give it a listen.

Amazing! Thanks for following up, Selma. It's good to know Beethoven Radio has some Flagello. I'll request it when I can listen.
