I just returned from Branson, MO, where we spent a long weekend. We took in a couple of shows and visited some of the museums. Patriotism is a rampant theme there, and the city caters to veterans. There is an armed forces museum, and Yakov Smirnoff puts of a very patriotic show (he is very proud of his citizenship).

The armed forces museum boasts memorial walls which incluces the names of U.S. soldiers killed in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Persian Gulf. The WWII wall, which contains over 400,000 names, is in a large hall that includes a 70 foot bronze sculpture of 50 WWII soldiers in combat. One soldier from each of the 50 states (although there were only 48 at the time) is represented.

The have a Titanic museum, though Branson, MO seems a strange place for such a thing. It appears to be a permanent home for the traveling exhibit that was moving around the country at the time of the movie.

There is also the pervasive Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum, which we avoided. There seems to be one of those things in every tourist spot. "Where two or three are gathered in tourism's name, there Ripley's is ever found." Or so it appears.

The lakes were all at capacity there, with Table Rock recently having set a record for water level. There has been no shortage of rain this year, and the Corps of Engineers is apparently concerned about the continuing rainfall. Noah, the Musical has been playing in town this season, and Jim Stafford says there is a connection between the two....

All in all, a pleasant trip.

What great pics. Imagine... OT, Shos, *ignaf, HRH... all in the same pic. Talk about a celebrity shot! A Who's Who of the BBB.

Bones! Nice of you to drop in!

However, you are too modest. The true Who's Who of the BBB would be Treebeau, you, Shos, and Barfle. The rest of us are mere pretenders to the throne.

Hi Piq. I read your comment to Mrs Shos. She's blushing and speechless (for now).

Folks...I am off for a week of backpacking in the Sierra Nevada near the Sonora Pass where the Pacific Crest Trail intersects. Happy trails to you all while I am gone. Play nice  I'll be back on line perhaps Sunday July 27th. Until then...

Leaving this Saturday or Sunday to go see my parents in Georgia.
Driving down... not sure if I'll try it all in one day or break it up over 2 days...

I'll be listening to b.com and logging in from there for about a week....

Enjoy the drive, TM. If time permits, take it in two days (three, even?) and avoid freeways. :driver: If you keep the windows open, you might even find good barbecue. :toast:

See if you can find Dixie Bones. It's south of the DC beltway off I-95. Go east on 123, then south on US route 1 to Occoquan Road. 703-492-2205

It's not Fat Ivor's, but it's darn good barbecue!
