I think that's just my search-self driven by the quest for information.
What do the other bots do? They never post but they are always there. Why are they always there? What do they want?

A "bot" is an automated program (robot) that searches the Internet and catalogs the information it finds for search engines like Yahoo and Google and MSN (bots I've seen here). They are also known as web crawlers.

I'm a bit surprised that they actually identify themselves the way they do here on the BBB, but I suppose that's a good thing. The BBB keeps track of its users, many of which are not logged on and are noted as "guests" in the notations at the bottom of the page.

i too got curious about the 'bots' after seeing them online at BBB.

A google search turned up 'cloaking devices' to let one's computer pose as sundry innocuous "bots" - eg how to make yourself look like a google bot.

I assume they are for nefarious purposes.

That's why i don't do much business over internet - i'll shop there but always call the folks and arrange to pay by check or money order.
