Regarding the second quote, at the time when I was paying attention to major league baseball, Reggie Jackson held the record for the number of times he'd struck out.

It's true, if you're at the top of the game, you can get away with a lot.

As far as the first quote is concerned, my clever canned response is that the world has been going to hell in a handbasket since the invention of handbaskets.
