Tainted peanut butter and Madoff

My guess is that both of these incidents will result in a flurry of new laws and regulations. Obviously, cheating people out of their money and knowingly shipping tainted food are already illegal. Complete oversight is impossible. Increased oversight comes with extra cost. I'm thinking both these things are anomolies. Sadly, its true that even the most severe oversight can still overlook sometimes.

In both cases, problems were reported and not acted upon. Proceedures were not followed. The people responsible will not be held accountable, but we'll all be forced into greater inconvenience because of their folly. Such is life.

I find it interesting that the Federal government is so concerned about Madoff's Ponzi Scheme, but seem unfazed by the problems facing the one they've been running since the '30s.

Someone from the Peanut company will go to jail. It will take longer than I'd like for it to happen, but it will happen.
