I watch very little 'adult' TV these days, so don't see the commercials. My kids, however, are fascinated with the allergy med commercial running on the Weather Channel - flower that turns into a pill, cats, brooms - they really like it... can't remember the brand off-hand.

That, of course, is the mark of an ineffective advertising campaign.

We remember the dancing Chesterfield packs by name, thirty plus years after cigarette advertising was banned, but can't recall the name of the product whose current ad we enjoy.

Say what you will about those annoying 'ditties' that we get stuck in our heads, we do remember the product name, even when we don't want to....

Of course, it helps if you have a product with a catchy name. Ambometalbuticyl just doesn't cut it...

There's a "guitar hero" ad running now has a wholesome family with about three kids, mom,& dad enjoying a toy guitar.
Mom is dressed in a blue turtleneck i think, looks ready for her PTA meeting. she's a stunningly pretty lady.

That ad is the mark of an evil genius.

But that time she was prancing aound an apartment wearing only black lace undies and a toy guitar, undulating between gyrations, ending with a thrust and climactic guitar crescendo. We had to replay the hand...

I don't think i am a particularly dirty old man. But now the Guitar Hero brand is indellibly marked with those antipodal images of the Lady and the Tigress.

My son has Guitar Hero, so I'm familiar with it. We recently had to pick him up a copy of the Metallica edition which just came out. I've never played it, but it seems to be pretty popular. I'm not sure if it actually has any benefit as far as learning to play the guitar, since the 'guitar' is really just a fancied-up keypad.

I was just noticing in the commercial that you never see the actual software, the game platform, or a television screen, just the fake guitar. I realize, of course, that Guitar Hero is available for multiple platforms: Wii, Playstation, Gamecube, etc., so I understand not wanting to show the platform, but it could have been another Victoria's Secret ad as far as product placement was concerned...
