I believe these are from Peter Schickele, but I'm not sure. They were posted, without comment or notation, on the P.D.Q. Bach Appreciation Society page on Facebook. Does anyone know the source?

I'm positive that doesn't get an explanation. There's a lot of musician humor in that thing; I'm printing a copy to take home where the instrumentalists hang out.

Note the instructions to the players: "sand bow to taste", "Sleep for two measures", "inflate the circus clowns". "snorf!:

All of you know that I love listening to B.com and like many of you have been a big supporter. Unfortunately, our IT department at my office has other ideas and blocks a lot of the streaming out there, including B.com. I am fortunate to work from home at times, but when I am in the office I constantly have to stay one step ahead of the IT police by finding new streaming "opportunities" for classical music. I came across this website and thought that I would share it. It's a pretty comprehensive collection of classical music stations on the internet (and air). I usually listen to WNED during my office hours...the ITidiots haven't found it yet. Except for a lack of movie music which I really enjoy but miss on this station, the programming is similar to B.com in their selections. Maybe this website, with all of its links to classical web streaming, will come in handy for some of you as it does for me.

Thanks for the link. Back when I had a subscription to RealPlayer, they used offer a list of available stations. But, as you may recall, we had issues with RealPlayer and Beethoven.com, which are covered in a sperate thread in the "Help" section, I believe, so I was happy to get shed of the RealPlayer once B.com offered the commercial-free stream.

The list may come in handy, though. I always need a backup to switch to when Bolero is playing...

fair anne and i are visiting here in Idaho and local thrift store has this neat old album of five 78's...recorded in 1939..
Toscanini conducting NBC orchestra Beethoven's "Eroica"... the jacket says it's a recording of 'the radio broadcast'...
They look to be mint, unplayed.

a quick internet search says there was a 1939 recording that's famous, from RCA's studio 8, and it's available on cd. That cd got mixed reviews for quality of transcription.

Does anyone know if this is a treasure? Was the studio 8 recording the same one that was broadcast?

i finally got a 78 turntable going, so think i'll pick these up when the junkshop opens in the morning. . my hesitation is not the $3.50 but the clutter - i'm awash in these things!
anyhow, am working on an old Ampex tube amp (push pull 6v6's) and stumbled across a 15 inch Marantz reflex speaker that's half of somebody's discarded stereo,,, should make a good period-piece playback system for these old records.

well i picked them up . Sound quality isn't great but even my unsophisticated ear picks up on orchestra's enthusiasm , it's a lively performance.
and it's a blast from the past.

I think a better cartridge will help with sound, by '39 they were getting pretty good so the record probably has better sound than i am getting out of it.
Real progress was after WW2 when the German technique of "biasing" magnetic tape was brought back as a war prize.

Does anyone own one of these? I live in a condo and miss my piano and have been thinking of purchasing a "digital" piano. Actually I love the idea of being able to put on headsets and play AND i love the idea of being able to download the orchestra and play with them. Though what orchestra will have recorded "three blind mice" I don't know.

Thoughts anyone?
