H1N1

Postby Giant Communist Robot » Wed Apr 07, 2010 2:00 pm

I have the flu. I was disappointed to learn it was not H1N1. If one must get sick, it should be an interesting experience.

Apparently, there are something like 72,000,000 doses of H1N1 vaccine going to waste, probably going to be destroyed. Once the panic died down, so did the demand for the vaccine.

I hope you get over your flu quickly.

Our delivery system for such vaccines is seriously flawed. I won't get a shot now that the "World pandemic" seems not to have occurred. Besides, the vaccine itself is getting a bit "old".

Oh..and GCR....I hope you feel better soon. Spring is a lousy time to have flu. Then again, there is never a good time is there?

Hope you feel better GCR...

I live in Suffolk County L.I.
The county has a program where they were providing the H1N1 shot free of charge.
I had the regular flu shot (provided free of charge here at work)
Did not get the H1N1 flu shot

Fair Anne came down with a flu last October that hung on. In second week we went to see good ol' Doc Tony.

Doc said there were a couple different strains making the rounds with symptoms very similar to H1N1, the treatment for all of them was same , and as the test to determine exactly which variety she had cost $400 he didn't recommend it.

Get well soon.
Personally I'm a believer in rest and letting the fever cook the virus out.
And fresh citrus, which in your part of world probably grows in the yard.

Feel better soon, GCR.

H1N1 may have a resurgence in early summer. Probably not, but may.

Hope you're feeling better by now. I got a stomach bug Friday - husband and kids usually get them and I somehow avoid. Not this time. I was totally useless Friday and Saturday. Wore myself out Sunday just doing the usual things (as stomach was better).

I got the regular flu and H1N1 shots as I work at a hospital and after the 'critical' people got it, they were giving it out for free to employees. Got free doses for the kids at a big clinic and was happy that our pediatrician didn't recommend getting the other 1/2 dose booster. Husband is allergic to poultry - thus eggs, thus can't get any flu shots as yet. so I always feel I have to get flu shots to help protect him, especially since he works at a college, so he likely has higher exposure than most folks. Can't wait until they can mass produce without using eggs!

I was up in your area after Christmas. I was going to drop you a PM and see if you wanted to have coffee. I guess the timing was bad. (Turned out I didn't have enough free time to have had the coffee, anyhow.)
