I do actually like the 9th; it's just not my favourite from LvB. Krips does indeed do a fine job with it. I'm very glad I bought that set, and I still can't believe the price. It must have fallen off the back of a truck in China.

The belt for my turntable was waiting for me when I got back from holiday. I put it on and the turntable's as good as new. Thanks again, Jamie. Vintage Electronics put a business card in with it, which I have put on my frig.

I have recently bought a Blu-ray recorder. Not that there is any Blu-ray TV in NZ, but I'm future-proofing as far as I can. Besides, I may be able to save the cost of a Blu-ray burner for my computer.

Anyway, it turns out that the upscaling function works for audio as well as video. The result is a huge improvement in the quality of these recordings. I'm even more pleased with them now. 4 and a half stars. Not 5. My criticism of the slow movement of the 4th still stands.

make sure that you connect that thing with HDMI cables for the full effect. If your BluRay is wireless and ready for internet downloading of movies, you will need a high capacity "two-way" HDMI cable from the player to the TV and your surround sound system. The sound is tremendous! I have never heard such dynamic range or transparency. The sound imaging is so good you can hear bullets whizzing past your head when you are watching "shoot 'em up" shows on the player. One of my favorites is Master and Commander...it just comes alive!

My TV has very good sound anyway, so I haven't bothered with Home Theatre or Surround Sound. Perhaps I should. And yes, I am using an HDMI cable. A very expensive Panasonic one.

The internet connection is very slow. I tried it with an old modem, which shouldn't have mattered since it's rated at far more than the capacity of Telecom's phone lines. I put it away after a while. It just wasn't worth the trouble.
