I think ground troops are ineveitable, whether ours or NATO's or somebody else's. There is only so much that can be done with a 'no-fly zone'. Sooner or later, Kaddhafi will figure a way to continue the killing without violating it.

Either by proxy (French Legionaires) or actual English/French/Italian troops. I don't think you'll se any Americans other than possibly some SOG guys, maybe a MEU but I just don't see this president taking any "bold" action regardless of justification.

I don't think it'll be 'bold action' on his part, he'll be led into it by stronger personalities, just as he was with the 'no-fly zone'. Some claim it was Hillary's doing, others say Sarkozy but, regardless, someone backed Mr. Obama into a corner and left him with no choice but to fight. I think the same will happen with ground troops. They'll be part of a 'international effort', but We'll probably have some there.

I still think that the Legionaires are more than just a minor possibility. I've seen up close and personal how those guys operate on the ground and I'll put them up against almost any modern medium infanry group on earth. As for Gaddifi's troops or the rag tag Rebels there is no comparison. I'm not sure there are enough of them to make the deciding difference but If it looks like the Legionaires by the time I reach London in May I'll put down some serious money ($1-200) that they will take and hold Tripoli while kicking Gaddifi and those rebels to hell and gone.

Will NATO survive Libya?

I think the article is a little overwrought but the underlying idea appeals to me, greatly.

I think our involvement in NATO is slightly less necessary than our involvement in the UN. I would love to see us out of the UN and like to see us out of NATO.

More realistically I can see us quitting NATO before leaving the UN. Personally, I believe our membership in NATO has run its course. The Europeans have depended on us for their protection for the past 60 plus years and I’m tired of the investment it has/is costing us.

BTW, has anyone seen any reports of current U.S. military actions in Libya? Me neither. Can anyone doubt that the MSM is completely subservient to the Obama’s propaganda machine?? Anyone?

It is being reported, but it's not getting the headlines any more. Kind of like the way Japan dropped off the radar screen for a while when we first started military action in Libya.

According to my "official sources in Italy" (guys I worked with a million years ago) we are loading bombs on airplanes, taking off and returning without the bombs. So we are either killing fish in the Med or finding other targets.

It expired, but I don't see any changes. Personally, I've always thought the "War Powers Act" is illegal but it was pass by a Democratically controlled Congress so you'd think someone might care!?!
