Thanks for the heads-up Shapely. I'll be sure to only send notes to the people I'm seeing instead of telling everyone when/where we're going. Some people put pics of their kids as their main photo, but I'm loathe to do that. I think, but am not sure - will have to check, you have to be my friend to see pics of my kids. I don't mind sharing the pics here as I don't use their names. After all the posting here, it feels strange to use their real names on FB.

You could scan and use that really cute 2nd grade school picture of yourself that your mother has in a box in the hall closet, right? Old friends would recognize it but random viewers wouldn't.

Like you, Schmeelkie, I'm a bit leery of posting using a real name and accurate details. It might be paranoia, but then again, how can you be sure?

Having run for political office, I find that much of my life is already online, whether I wanted it to be so or not. With Facebook I may have it conveniently gathered in one place, but it was already available for those that wanted to know.

A lot of my notes and poems are merely reprinted from here and elsewhere. I think my photos are safe enough, nothing incriminating in them, to the best of my knowledge.

Sometimes I find Facebook amazing. While "googling" and event that happened in my hometown when I was a girl, I stumbled across a Facebook group called "I grew up in Maple in the 70's-80's". Although this small town had a population of 1,000 people, I grew up there in the 60's and 70's. Totally amazing.

I've never tried the Ancestry.com page. I used to browse a different genealogy site, but there was so much misinformation that I gave up.

It's fascinating Shap. It has a monthly fee, of course, what hasn't a fee. But I found the graveyard where my my great grandmother X5 at Trinity Church at Wall Street and Broadway. 1795 she died. My great grandfather x 5 was on the British side of the American Revolution. AHA!!

I also found out that my great grandfather wasn't the only child we were told he was. He had brothers and a sister. Brothers who lived in Toronto and a brother who lives in Cleveland; a retired microbiologist and the discoverer of hyperthermophiles. Amazing. I found some family. Maybe they will talk to me....

I have been chatting with a number of "cousins" through ancestry.ca. And the pictures I have been able to see. One of my nephews has done so much research I need only tell the stories.

It is addictive.

"My great grandfather x 5 was on the British side of the American Revolution."

That explains a lot of your posts... ;) :)

One big drawback to Facebook that I don't get posting here. If someone pisses me off on FB, I can't rant about it on FB. No way to depersonalize what I'd like to say, thus I end up spewing to y'all. A bit of TMI on someone else's part got me into a bit of hot water yesterday. I had no way of knowing that what the person was writing about was a big deal, so when I said something joking (on my wall, not in response), I get slammed for being insensitive. sheesh. Enjoying my anonymitiy with y'all!

I neither twitter nor facebook.

Tampoco.
Some people put pics of their kids as their main photo

Photos of kids and some personal information posted online sounds less than wise

I keep all kids photos so only 'friends' can see them and never use them as my profile shot. I almost don't want to use their real names... I try not to be too specific about going anywhere (only in directed notes) and will only talk about long trips after they've happened.

The *$&%^! state PTA uses Facebook for announcements. I may need to open an account. Blech. Oh wait ! It can be a PTA account! I dont need to be a 'face' on it! (still blech)
