I've been listening to the Wolf lately. I love it. A powerful and expressive singer, and not too shabby as a songwriter either. Some of his most popular songs were written by his bass player, Willie Dixon. These include Little Red Rooster and Spoonful, both of which were covered with great success by British musicians. In Wolf's versions the guitar playing is subtle by comparison, and manages to give a more cohesive performance. The British covers seems fragmented and appear to have missed the point of the songs. But where the Wolf reeeeeealy excels is when he does his own material. You'll never hear a better Smokestack Lightnin than his.
